The reason for the WHAT: In that particular scene he’s talking to the Constructicons and they say something of which he replies back with a very hilarious and memorable “Whaaaaaat?” somewhat like Beast Wars Megs says his iconic ‘Yessssssss’. I think it's supposed to be a play on that, actually.
