Got inspired by an image from digitalblasphemy... maybe you've seen it?Anyway, i modeled this at TG02 and it had been a while since i submitted something, i hope you like it

yeah, i know the original, i think it's called minutaue or something ... when i saw the thumbnail the first that came to mind was to flame you for copying it, but i see you gave it credit wich is good. Too many people today wouldn't bother.
this isn't bad, but the original is better imo. You didn't fill the space ass good ... tho the blur on the one in the foreground gives a nice effect of realism, but i think that the spikes are too clear and crisp (not to mention too few and far apart)
and i think the whole thing altougether could be darker ... oh, well

Nice incidence angle material and the DOF is an excellent touch.
Here is a tip nature rarely makes anything perfect or identical imperfections are usually small, microscopically speaking a small measure would mean a large (not subtle) variance. To push the realism of this "microscopic" idea, personally if I would start with making the spheres *slightly* irregular in shape. I am not certain if you have already or not varied the "snags" or "thorn" attributes -i.e. short/tall, skinny/fat, location, angle of protrusion.
well great job on this one, I would enjoy seeing this revised
