July (5062-20) has gotten used to her life as a slave at the forced labor camp run by the Polk Company. Now, after two years, it feels normal to work hard for twelve to sixteen hours every day while collared and shackled and wearing a striped prisoner's uniform. She's become accustomed to standing for roll call, lining up for food, and sleeping in crowded bunks in the barracks. Punishments, however, are still traumatic because she is generally very obedient and hard working. This didn't prevent her from receiving four different whippings, or being part of a brutal punishment detail where she was forced to turn a mill with eleven other women eighteen hours a day for a week. On a pleasant day like this one, working outside with her friends on the labor unit, July can forget past pains and concentrate on doing the job at hand to the best of her abilities.

NOTE-- The operators of the Polk Company's labor camp met with the management from Felsgrund a while ago and were convinced to simplify their operations by adopting the Eurozone camp model. They abandoned the elaborate prison uniforms (they had been considering "Weathergirl" style uniforms and equipment) and confusing, time consuming procedures like "performance evaluations." Slaves were issued very simple blue and gray striped dresses, along with a nightshirt (polka dotted, of course) a bowl, a spoon, a belt for carrying these, and thick vinyl clogs. Slaves would now spend most of their time working, often at hard but useful labor.
