NOTE: I completed this picture using DA Muro so I could use the text labeling tool. Muro isn't all that easy to use, it's clunky, and it doesn't support downloading. Sorry about that.

This is also the first picture that I've scanned rather than photographed in over a year. I tried numerous times, but I use natural light, and right now the daylight here in the Northwest Sector is dim, flat, and gray. I couldn't make it look good in post processing, or at least look better than my old scanner does. I've got to work out a satisfactory way to photograph pictures using artificial light.

I felt nostalgic using the old scanner, remembering those good old days-- prior to one year ago-- when I just slapped pictures on its glass surface, made some adjustments, and pressed scan at any time of day under any weather. But I can see it's not the best looking way to go in the long term. It just happened to work this time with this picture.

They don't even bother to ask her who put her up to being a corporate spy?Β  If she was clearly just a pawn, why not make use of that?

You see, Audrey was never a corporate spy. She just handed in a safety report that nobody in top management wanted seen.

They knew she wasn't involved in "corporate espionage." And the police, prosecutors, etc. knew not to believe her when she professed her innocence.Β

Audrey was simply the wrong person at the right time.

It all makes sense now.Β  When I tried telling the store director at Meijer of Grand Ledge that the toxic work climate there is a lot more complex than he knew, he cut me off.Β  He didn't want to hear it.Β  And then, my hours got horribly slashed.Β  Since I was a target of a lot of the abusive employees, he reasoned rather than punish them for their hostility, he'd simply blame their most common victim.Β  Remove their temptation.Β  Which means he's doing the opposite of his job, because there will always be another that they decide they don't like.Β  There will always be someone else they'll make a punching bag.

Dinesh D'Souza recently delivered a speech and was asked about his time in a jail (that whole donation money scandal thing.)Β  He pointed out that while he got nailed for helping a friend get $15,000 to run when the limit was $5000, that Obama's allies, many of them foreign (which is treasonous to accept) were donating $180,000 to even millions to Obama's 2012 campaign.

He also stated in that speech that most prisoners, as he discovered, don't think like they're portrayed to in The Shawshank Redemption.Β  They don't usually run around insisting they're innocent, or rambling on about higher meaning and deeper concepts as many would expect someone with that much time on their hands to do.Β  Instead, Dinesh claims, they behave more like Machiavelli predicted they would: obsessed with the lowest, basest of human instincts of survival.Β

Also, most of them will admit they did something.Β  Just not usually anything as serious as what they were accused of.Β  In other words, the charges were grossly inflated.Β  They will also state that the real criminals, the "smart" ones, are the ones running the system.Β  And by virtue of that, the real ones are the ones who are "too big to fail," and therefore, never get caught.Β  It's the small fries, the "stupid" ones, and the "expendable" parties that get locked up as sacrificial lambs to protect the "real" evildoers.

That's what Audrey was then.Β  She smelled a rat, and the rat had her locked up because she knew too much.Β  Funny how fetish stories like Audrey's are more honest about real-world corruption than most other types of stories.Β  It's a truth nobody wants to admit to.

I try/hope to capture at least a little truth in my works. I guess you can't go [completely] wrong if you assume the worst about society.

Like a geisha or a highborn Chinese girl perhaps. By the way, this prisoner looks like she's still in her 20s. I wonder if more mature women are subjected to this treatment, those in their 30s and 40s.

Does she go barefoot in winter as well? That doesn't sound very practical, as she can easily freeze her feet.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chamberlain-Complex In reply to Qehrk [2014-11-08 01:11:23 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Audrey and the others go barefoot even in the winter. However, the weather doesn't get quite as brutally cold in her area, and the guards usually keep the prisoners inside during the worst days.

True, it's not completely practical, but it is a good means of control.

Qehrk In reply to Chamberlain-Complex [2014-11-08 02:13:13 +0000 UTC]

I definitely see how it would make her more submissive. It must be a horrible shock for a sophisticated girl like her to be forced to forfeit her shoes and spend the rest of her life completely barefoot. Plus there's also the physical aspect: lack of footwear should make it much harder for her to escape. She's almost guaranteed to hurt her bare feet, which would slow her down and make re-capturing her a trivial task.

I've got to say, Audrey's cruel but fair fate has really touched me. How likely are we to see her further misadventures? I simply can't believe a heinous criminal like her would be content to simply toil away in prison and repay her debt to the society. Surely she's got something on her dirty mind!

I'm glad you liked this, and especially that you took the time to let me know you did. I really do appreciate feedback and comments.

I might check in on Audrey sometime in the future, especially if something really interesting happens to her.
