Description
My favourite scene of the new trailers: the worried face of Finn as he stumbles back in the snow, approaching: a much more experienced Sith with a red sabre.
That shot has stuck with me as a great idea for a vector painting, decided to get it out of my system with all the excitement of the movies release

He may use a Red Lightsaber and be skilled in the Dark Side, but I don't think that would qualify him as an actual Sith.
A Sith is a direct descendant or an avid folower of the Sith way. The Original Sith were an entire race of red skinned people who were strong in the dark side of the force. After the civil war within the original Jedi, the remaining Dark Jedi were banished away from Republic controlled space, and once they landed on Korriban, the home of the Sith race, they would eventually be hailed as demigods and mingle with the Sith species, which is why we see Sith Lords who do not have the appearance of the Original Sith species.
If you play as the Sith Warrior in SWTOR, the first enemy you make is an Sith Acolyte named Vemrin because the first Sith Lord you meet, Overseer Tremmel, has brought you to Korriban to stop Vemrin's rise to power among the True Sith. Why? Tremmel said it himself, Vemrin is MIXED BLOOD, the invisible rot in the Sith order. If this wasn't enough, you also eventually meet another Sith Lord who has similar views about "Mix Bloods", only this time this one's an Actual Sith race. He has you run an errand for him as you scan the Blood of the other Overseers, checking how strong the True Sith Blooodline runs through them. However, he becomes bitter at the fact that how little there is in even the masters.
According to this, we can tell that having the True Sith Blood course through your veins is imperative among the Sith. However, considering how little Sith True bloods there were, and how there were No signs of the red siths we know living during the original six movies, we can safely assume that their race died out. As for their teachings however, they remained thanks to the modern day sith.
Darth Sidious can be considered the Very Last Sith Master thanks to his apprentice Darth Vader betraying him and dies.
Thus ends the Sith's Legacy.
Now we have Kylo Ren, the new "Darth Vader" so to speak. He may have a powerful connection to the dark side, but that does not qualify him as a Sith Lord. Like the Original Dark Jedi, he may be a follower of the school of Bogan, the teachings of the Dark Side, and not even be Sith at all. The Dark Jedi were adept with the Dark Side during that first civil war against their Light Side rivals, and they had never even heard of the word Sith before! They only discovered them after they had lost the war and were banished to the outer rim.
For Kylo Ren to even be a Follower of the Sith way, he has to study directly under the original Sith Code. Although, he studies under a previously Unknown Master of the Dark Side. Whether or not this master is truly a Sith is debatable, but it is certain that this new villain is indeed a powerful Dark Force user.
