Description
No particular reason for this painting, I just really like space.

Seeing the thumbnail, I thought it was anotehr gas giant than jupiter, with whitsih/yellow/orange/brown clouds.

βI just like spaceβ actually best reason, if Iβm honest.
Your colors and composition are always so lovely, even in your leisurely drawings... Shucks. Always good stuff!

You know, I see all of these comments talking about Pluto, and I'mma let you all finish. But Jupiter has 69 moons, Earth only has 1, and I don't see a single Jovian moon represented here, while the one terran moon is there in its full glory.Β
That's Lunacy.

I wanted to! but 50+ moons on both Saturn and Jupiter seemed a little too muchΒ

But... but how am I supposed to be unreasonable if you're going to be reasonable about this? D: All of my misdirected and misguided anger and betrayal! I can feel them fizzling away into nothingness! Oh woe is me! Woe is... wait, nevermind. I guess it's all okay.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, and for your amazing artwork, as always. ^_^

Probably because it would of made some sense to include all 9 Major planets, including Pluto. It is suggested that this was to cover the major planets. That is why everyone's a bit sad, because Pluto seems to get overlooked but technically if you are covering the 9 majors then Pluto should be included. But if you generally just love satellitesΒ then that is fine. But you'd probably just need a singular design covering Jupiter alone to do that. Though there is actually a suggestion ofΒ 53 - 67 satellitesΒ on Jupiter. I love your choice of ''69'' by the way.

Felanore In reply to AdiosArky [2018-01-01 03:38:01 +0000 UTC]
Not my choice on the number, but thanks for the vote of confidence.
Pluto is also a dwarf planet. Still a planet, but a small one, and only major because of how people classified things for a while when knowledge was more limited than current understanding. Things and definitions change in science as they need to, especially in fields where emerging information alters the way we perceive a subject and its linked terms. Astronomy (and all related fields) is something which has only recently (relatively speaking) been given information to work with about certain things. As exoplanets are discovered, and as thinking advances, so too must our minds, lest we be trapped in the past, clinging to nostalgia and outdated information in hopes of resisting the tides of newness and progress. Pluto's not a "real planet" anymore, but it's okay. It's not gone. It's not in a different place in the sky. It's still the closest thing in a stable orbit after Neptune of that size or larger that I'm aware of. It's just a change in title. It will survive.
But, also, my original comment was a joke. Thanks for playing though.

Agreed. Except it's now classified as a Dwarf Planet again, hence it being updated, felanore. So the information brought up here is accurate. It is now regarded as a planet again, not a satellite, they corrected that. Has been for sometime. You just need to search that to verify it (No hard feelings though). It is just Art after all and it's up to the Artist. Not the fans as to what goes in there. Also.. brilliant joke (if you are being serious about it being a joke)Β Β

I'm... mildly confused by this reply. My last comment was about Pluto being a Dwarf Planet, not a Major Planet or a "real planet" as people keep saying. It's a dwarf planet, and there's nothing wrong with that. So... I guess I'm somewhat uncertain what your reply is meant to be about, since it seems you're trying to correct me despite just agreeing with me. XD
And thanks for the compliment.Β Β

Well, that's fine then. But it did appear more like you were trying to suggest it was a moon. 'And designation of a planet (''a real planet'') is based on how it functions''. There's no disputing from us feeble lesser folk whether it's a real planet, if it's a planet it still a real planet even it's a Dwarth Planet, it's still a planet. Whether it orbits the main body (sol/the sun) making it or if it orbits a secondary body/planet which would make it a satellite, it will still have a label based on it's function. As for ''major'' that clearly by how it's regarded alone. Not by it's placement in size value. Pluto is still Moon sized after all even if it's a planet.Β
But I'm not really going to hold that against if it was just simple mistake (possibly Β from my part) and you were in fact in agreement.
Anyway, no hard feelings. Some people just communicate a bit differently to others, and that's diversity. And no-one will really pick up on the fact that the others person is communicating in a different manner at first. Possible the language of Pluto, because I bet that's how it feels right now for other parties. XDΒ
You have my sincerest admiration and respect for that witty Jimmy Neutron picture, good sir or madam... or what ever you want to be called.Β Β Β
I humbly apoligice for the confusion.Β Β

Except for Saturn, none of the gas giants are exactly KNOWN for having rings, but they all do. Jupiter's are extremely tenuous and you'd never see them in any images easily. Neptune and Uranus both have more structured rings (in fact, that's what makes Uranus' sideways tilt so impressive! It's rings are pointed upright!) but I've seen people forego illustrating them. Giving one of them rings but not the other is something I haven't seen before though, so this makes me laugh a bit.
