Description

Day One of the 50-Mythical Monster Challenge : the Rakshasa.  The Rakshasa have a strange backstory in Hindu mythology, being described as eternally hungry for human (or deific!) flesh.

I imagine a Rakshasa as both a vicious, cannibalistic warrior and one appreciative of beauty and culture.  Although his permanent hunger denies him the subtlety of truly enjoying a meal, he would still enjoy the scent of a perfect flower, and given the chance would adorn himself in finery.

Thanks!

If I draw another Rakshasa, I'll have to do him in color.  They're such colorful monsters it was kind of a shame to do this one in black and white!

I get skittish about drawing feet because it's sometimes hard to get the proportions right (if you look in my Monster-Girls folder, there are several girls with sometimes strange feet...).  Glad these came out right though!!

Thanks a lot!  I'd never thought to draw a Rakshasa before, so thank you for posting the challenge!

Do you have any other cool challenge ideas?  I'm always looking for inspiration, and I assume others are too :-D

It was my pleasure, I'm just happy someone did some of it
[And I do have some more ideas. I like mythical creatures, so I was thinking of doing some more. But more specific to their cultures, like Celtic monsters, or aztec monsters. Or maybe some specific to regions like arctic monsters or desert monsters. Maybe even some gods.]
Haha!! But there are many many much better challenges out there.

All of these are awesome-- I'm always looking for excuses to draw things I haven't tried to depict before, so I totally hope you write one of those up

For the record, his is carrying four blades: from bottom to top, they are a dagger, a khanda, a broadsword, and a falchion.  The falchion is intended to be wielded two-handed, so he's more brandishing it as a threat display than really wielding it.
