Story:

1. Pinky's checkup (476)
It had been a couple days since the 'accident' with Miriam and the girl had decided not to show up for classes. Becca had called Lilith to say that Miriam wouldn't be able to ride her own horse due to a private training. Kiss was shipped off to Germany for a 'good' professional training session to learn to behave. Lilith didn't think twice about it and just okay-ed the woman.

'Can she ride any other horse?'
'No. We only train people who own their horses.'
'But you have a horse..' Becca tried.
'No, she isn't going to ride my horse.'

Lilth answered in a professional way, but she couldn't hide the disgust of the question. Becca hung up on her, not in time to hide her scowl. So she had a couple of free hours at the end of the day. She walked up to Pinky's paddock. The mare didn't greet her, instead she stood in the corner with her head leaning on the fence.

'What's going on, baby?' She softly spoke to the mare.
No reaction.

Worried, she climbed over the fence instead of walking around it. She clucked her tongue, pressuring the horse to walk forward. There was no reaction or movement. She raised her hand behind the hindlegs and pointed her other hand in the direction the mare was standing. Reluctantly, the horse took a couple of steps. Right away, Lilith could see that something was wrong.

'Whoa, steady girl. Just stand here.' She picked up her phone and called up a friend.
'Hey, are you free right now?'
'Eh, yeah, I think so. Hold on.' She heard Luke stumble around, probably on a search for his agenda.
'I'm free, what's up?'
'I have a horse that seems to be in quite a lot of pain, can you come take a look at it?'
'I'm on my way'

He arrived only a couple of minutes later. His van had his name on the side of it and still looked quite shiny. He took his kit with him to the washplace, Lilith following him with a sore Pinky.

'I don't need to see her walk, she's definitely ouchy on the left hind.'
'Yup, she got kicked at a couple days ago and she hasn't been into work since. Only just noticed this. Also, new van?'
'Oh alright. Probably missed a step then. Yep! You like it?' He looked up from the feet for a second.
'I guess so, but isn't it a little much with your name all over it?' She grinned at him.
'Not for me, you know that.' His comment somewhat serious, but still a hint of sarcasm. 'Anyway, nothing seems damaged. Just a sore foot. Keep her on stall rest and hose her foot down every hour. Will do the trick for the swelling, she'll probably need a couple of day.'

2. The little one (687)
'Hey Trish. How are you doing?' She waited for a reply, which took longer than she had loved.
'Hey lil. Doing fine, having some problems with my mare.'

They hadn't spoken or seen each other in weeks and they had lots to catch up on.

'Oh what? Is she okay?'

Lilith could picture the bay mare being injured or ill. It had been quite a wobbly mare all throughout life.

'No not really. She foaled last year. Nothing wrong with the foal either, just.. we have no place for the foal and I can't find anyone to want the foal.'

She sounded desperate to house the foal somewhere else.

'As long as the mare is with her foal, I can't ride her and it's time to get back on track.' Lilith thought about it for a while.
'Is the foal ready to leave the mother already?' The line stayed silent for a while.
'Yes, but she is still very young. She's beautiful though.' Lilith started walking to the other room, she found her mother cradled over a box of ribbons.
'You have a moment Trish?'
'yeah.' She put her on the waiting line, so she could talk to her mother.
'Mom, I have a question. You remember Trisha?' Her mother looked up and nodded. Ofcourse she remembered the lively blackhaired girl who had been Lilith's best friend for years.
'Well, she has a mare. The bay one. That has foaled. She needs a place to house the foal. Little adorable mare.' Her mother smiled. She knew Lilith's idea and eventhough they didn't really need another horse to care for, she already imagined it running around with Pinky.

'How old is she?'
'She's a year old as of now.' Margaret's eyebrows shot up, her eyes widening.
'A year! That's pretty old for a foal to still be with his mother. We can take a look rightaway if you feel up to the challenge of owning a foal.' Lilith shot her mother a thankful look as she picked up the phone again.

'Trish, you still there?'
'yes?'
'Can we come take a look at the little mare?' The phone was put away from her face and Lilith could hear her talking to her father.
'Yeah, you can. Only if you take her.' Lilith smiled at her mother.
'Deal.'

Half an hour later they pull up to the driveway of Trisha's farm. They got happily greeted by the tiny dog that, as they learned later, listens to the name of Ranger. Lilith spent some time petting him before Trish came outside to show them the foal. They talked their way through the walk that took them a good 10 minutes. At the end of the pasture pathway, she could see a little mare with her baby.

'The baby is quite small, but so is Trina.' She pointed at the pair.
'This mare is predicted to stand at 1.60 meters when she's fully grown.'

When they got closer, they could see the pair quite a bit better. The mare a quite dark bay. The foal a seal brown colour.
'Her behaviour so far has been lovely towards people and her mother. Very cheeky and might turn out a little aggressive towards animals. She doesn't like ranger the slightest.' Lilith shrugged, it would be the least of the problems.
'She'll get along with my mare, who is very sweet but will bite back.' She smiled. Pinky wasn't aggressive or anything, but she was the leader of the field and would assert dominance where she could.
'Can we take her?' She asked her mom with a puppy eyed smile.
'Yes, we will. Trish will have to come and visit more often though, to look at her little foal.' Trish nodded to the deal.
'I'll register her to your name, she has a show register even.' She looked at Lilith in a question.
'She'll probably have a little bit more of that when she's older,' the answer ended up being. They had a long hug and said their goodbyes. Lilith went in to grab the foal and they went home with yet another horse.

3. The move (247)
'Trischa are you ready to go?' Her dad called out to her from behind the truck.
'Yeah, just picking up the last ropes and stuff.'
'Alright let's go then!'

It had been a couple weeks since Blue got transferred to Rose Garden Stables. Trischa had wanted to visit the little baby and watch it grow, but the universe wouldn't let her. She remembered the letter they had gotten. They had 3 weeks to move and pack up all their stuff. They could no longer pay for the ranch and the horses. They had cried about it, cussed about it and fought about it. In the end, it didn't matter at all, they needed to leave. The hussle of finding a house, wasn't as big as finding somewhere to board the horses close by. Eventually they stopped looking and Trischa had asked her old friend for help.

Today they had loaded all their horsey belongings, including two horses, into the truck and were about to head to the stables to put them away. They were lucky to have friends like Lilith and Margaret, who were always willing to help out. Trischa couldn't imagine having to sell the horses they had worked with for so long.

A place to sleep and only a couple of metres to the stables, it was a lonely dream. A dream, but not the situation to be fond of all together. She sighed and unloaded Rain, the last one to move into his stall.
