Description
The musical "Rent" is (c) Jonathan Larson / Dreamworks. Please feel free to correct me if something is wrong or missing. My third little parody on RENT (sadly not much more than an insider tipp in my homecountry). The inspiration and urge to draw this was just too strong.
From left to right you are supposed to see Mimi, Maureen, Mark, Joanne, Roger, Benny, then Angel and Collins. I oriented myself on the look of the first stage show cast, at least I tried it with the photos I could find. Perhaps there are some smaller faults in the details.
CAUTION SMALL SPOILERS ABOUT THE STORY
I love RENT, it really deserves its success. But I wonder ... did it succeed especially because of its many layers and its darker sides, or rather *despite* this things? Imho you can discuss and analyse RENT far more than many other musicals. (But if a "starter" is reading this - don't get afraid now, RENT is also no high-class-arts-niveau bomb!)
*The* message of the play is probably "No day but today". You can interpret that already in more than one way. But then there are also more than a few "smaller" messages from almost every character, and every of those gets its important spotlight moment.
Angel sings the energetic and optimistic "Today for you, tomorrow for me" about her potential and future. I think many of us found at least details in the song identify-worthy ... - if not with the whole song. Buuut ... somehow this look into the future "clashes" with the big message for me! On the one side we have "Live today as it were your last day", on the other "Live for your future".
But perhaps I am interpreting something wrong, and / or there is a theory which can connect both messages in a very harmonious way.

Poor Angel and Collins, but it is still cute.

Hm, yeah, you are not the first one pointing this out - see the comments below. Next time I draw a guitar from the side (that's what it is supposed to be, Roger's guitar!) I'll try to make it look more precise guitar-ish.

It looks like Rodger has a giant knife in his hand and he's about to kill someone... ^-^'

Best ending ever. Although you really DO have to question why Angel died, when everyone else said "No day but today" and she was looking towards tomorrow. xD

Well, it's difficult... you have to live like it's the last day of your life, but hoping to see the sun tomorrow... well that's what I understand.

Whoops, does it look so odd? It's supposed to be his guitar from the side...!

Damn, yes ... I drew a ... wooden guitar, not his E-guitar.

Well, I have a 'wooden guitar' and it's flat xD
If u'd change it, Roger would stop looking like he's going to change Mark into happy barbecue bites xD

It was made with traditional media and I'm not good at retouching traditional stuff with the PC. Buuuut I'll keep your advice in mind so if I ever draw a wooden or an E-guitar again it shall have a better look.

In other words, put your BFFs first... but live life to the fullest: it IS possible, and quite easily! Don't leave anything for you to regret if today were your last day of life here, but at the same time, look toward a brighter tomorrow if today DOESN'T turn out to be your last day!!

Am I right if I presume you see the two messages in harmony and you connect them with each other?

Aw! That's depressingly hilarious.
Agreed though. On one hand the message of the play is "live for today"...but then again the one character that is universally loved both by the audience and the characters in the play is the character that lives for the future...despite not having any future herself to live for. Which makes her doubly awesome because she lives for all her friends futures.
hmmm...maybe the rest of ya'll are doing it wrong?

Good point, I never realised this - but then again, I hardly ever realise anything, at least when talking about musical. I just listen to the music and think how lovely it is and sing along the songs without actually understanding the lyrics, and then six months later I finally understand some very obvious plotpoint.
Your little RENT cast looks really cute, btw.

Haha! I also realized the little detail months after I first encountered the musical. Thank you for your thoughts and your approval.
And also Thank you for your group invitation. I'm considering it, but I'm not so quick with decisions.
