Description The Twilight book series is (c) Stephenie Meyer. Feel free to correct me if something is wrong or missing.

Number four of my four little Twilight parodies and therefore my last one. Thanks for the support!
(In the nearer future there will be a little comic about something else though, where Bella and Edward get a cameo) (uuuuh, teaser )

I thought it was honestly rather twee how Book!Bella crept through the Emmett and Rosalie question shyly up to the *real* question if intercourse between her and Ed is possible. Look, I can write something positive about the book, too!

When I read the book I was surely curious if it's really one big ad for no-sex-before-marriage ... some critics complained about that. My personal conclusion is: no, that's imho exaggeration. True, Bella and Edward do not ****** in volume one but
1) they are only really together for a few first days there
2) efflorescent erotic desires (on both sides) are clearly a topic and it's not potrayed as something bad
3) imho Edward's fear of loosing his vampire control when they get too close feels like a believable story part and not like that's-how-Meyer-avoids-sex-scenes.

I really wonder ... would have anyone had the idea "This book propagandizes abstinence! RAAH!" if S. Meyer were not a Mormon?

Woah, this sounds almost like a fan rant. - I don't know how much "propaganda" is in the other three books.

I would have to disagree here. When they get married in Breaking Dawn, they have sex while she's still mortal. The whole 'losing control' became completely moot and they did it anyway. Or course, he did lose control and probably gorilla punched her, but the conflict over whether they should or shouldn't was dropped.

ACTUALLY... (omg, here comes my confession about having read all.four.books. >.<) Edward totally beat himself up over it the next morning (he DID gorilla punch her and whatnot else - and it showed!), totally ruining the mood for Bella who really didn't mind that much (to each their own...).
Didn't stop them from being at it again minutes later though... <_<

Thank you for your words!
As mentioned in my comment, almost all my knowledge of Twilight starts and ends with the first volume. My four little parodies were created with only that book's universe as background and "setting", I had only the impressions from the very first book (probably the most famous from those four...?).
Others also already wrote that the Bella-Edward relationship is getting ... ... ... wilder ... in the following volumes. I don't know if I'll ever going to read those other books as well, probably only if my urge to feel "up to date" here becomes stronger.

I think the abstinence issue isn't really that much present in the first book, but as for the whole series... I don't know about anyone else, but I felt like there was some kind of a "No sex before marriage" message out there. There are other themes in the Twilight series that I dislike as well, so I admit that I might have picked it up because of that.
Anyways. I agree with your points above, but at the same time I think that Twilight is pro-abstinence, whether it's intentional or not.

Aaaah, Thank you for your insightful comment!
So far I still haven't read more than volume 1 of the series ( I'll only pick up the other ones if my need to be "up to date" should get stronger here), but from what I heard I already began to suspect that the "No sex before marriage" message becomes stronger in the following books.

Personally I think the "Edward is a stalker" critique point is by far my personal favourite. That aspect of Twilight annoyed me probably the most.

You're welcome (: I've spent quite a few whiles discussing the series with my friends, since we tend to disagree about various aspects of it, so I've had the chance to really think about it.
I've read all the books - it was difficult but I did it - and the message was much stronger in the following books. You should read them when you have time, because there are so many things to get annoyed about, lol.

Yeah, that's the one that got me as well. Also, all the manipulating that is happening in the series. It really worries me that there are people who think that Edward and Bella have a healthy relationship...

Heh cute. Quite true that Bella tried to be all verbally stealthy like that. ^_^

Personally, I felt that the "propaganda" complaint was a double standard. Despite what TV and movies (aka, propaganda) would have folks believe, there are still modern couples that wait till marriage for sex.

It especially makes sense with Edward's character since vampires have a very hard time changing from the mentality they were at when changed, and Edward was raised to be a gentleman in the Victorian era.

I don't think the issue would have gotten the same treatment if the situation were reversed, and it was Bella who wanted to wait while Edward pressured her for sex earlier.

Thank you for the long comment with heart and brain!

Hmmm, interesting thought.
We will never know, but I've got to say I wouldn't have been surprised if such a Bella would have evoked "A normal teenage girl who wants to wait nowadays? *Despite* hot boyfriend? Rubbish! Oh, those Mormons..." critique.

"A normal teenage girl who wants to wait nowadays? Despite* hot boyfriend? Rubbish! Oh, those Mormons..."

To be sure, there would have been some of those reactions, but I simply think there would have been less of them. As sexist as it may be, I think many found the situation unbelievable simply because it was the guy in the relationship who wanted to wait.

As for comments with heart and brain, I just get more talkative with comments when a deviation actually gives me something to talk about.

I daresay you have a point there.
