Technically you're right- as far as preparing for battle that's a terrible strategy,
but I think he spied on them long enough to know they pose no threat to him.
Besides, the only one who's guard should and will go out is Rakion's because he knows exactly what's up
(just give him a sec to wake up), everyone else don't even know this lightning came from a person,
for all they know it was just a random lightning stroke. So if anything they should act more confused than "on guard".

That's arrogant presumption. You never underestimate your opponent, because you never know what they are truly capable of. Even the most unlikely fighter, can surprise a hardened veterian. History is full of underdogs who were ready to be written off as footnotes, only to shock their more powerful opponents. Stalingrad, Waterloo, Bastille, Poltava, Stamford Bridge, and Manzikert just to name a few. All the vanquished armies thought themselves invincible, and they all faced the same fate, because they underestimated their opponents.
As for Rakion, if I were him, I'd be filling people in, on what's going on. That way, their less likely to get killed, because they have to play a guessing game.
