Description
Got a note asking "How Does One Breakdown"...Not the mental kind, the Transformers kind! And as flattered as I am that someone is coming to me for advice, I didn't think it was possible to explain the whole process in words, I decided to be a nice gal and work up a little tutorial.
Now, disclaimer time. I am not perfect. I am not an art guru. In fact, I am still learning a lot of things, will always be learning a lot of things, and it is likely that I will never be truly happy with the work I do. Therefor, I am not saying that -my- way is the correct and only way to draw Breakdown. If this tutorial helps you, then mission accomplished. If it does not, then I apologize in advance and wish you luck on your endeavors (if you have any pointers or corrections, feel free to post them in the comments and I will try to highlight them in this description as I'm sure a lot of other artists will love to learn from it as well.
Okay, now that I got that out of the way. Enjoy. I'm considering doing more, but we'll see. Already took me long enough to do THIS one...
Breakdown belongs to Hasbro, art belongs to me.
(Also, to the person that requested this tutorial, if you want to be mentioned or credited, then let me know and I'll give you huge public kudos for encouraging me to do this.)

Thank you so much for this!
I have "How to Draw Transformers Prime" but your method, especially with detailing his face seems so much more natural. That and the book forgot to put Knockout in it so it already loses points for that.
I've wanted to draw Breakdown for a while and have been collecting references on him but he still turns out wonky. Thank you for taking the time to show everyone how to draw our fav con bruiser!

I will go ahead and tell you that you did WAY better than the book. My step-father ordered it for me and I have used it once. That was only because I wanted to draw and didn't have internet for a reference. If you are interested in the book's way, I up take pics for stash and send you a link to view them.

Wow... yes, I would definitely like to see how the book does it. Personally, I never found much use out of the art books, but I always figured that was due to college classes drilling in my head to draw off of real life for reference and not a book, though now my teachers are requiring us to get some of those books. It all comes in full circle, I guess.
But, thank you! I'm glad it's helpful and even more helpful than the book was. XD

No probleam, I will post those and send you a private message with a link to them. I think the saddest part is they put in a bunch of characters, but left out Knockout.

Wow, really? You'd think with how popular he is in the fanart community that they'd include him, but I figured they saw so much art that they suspected that we didn't need it?

They put Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream, Cliffjumper, Soundwave, Arcee, Airachnid, Ratchet, Breakdown, Bulkhead, Wheeljack, and Vehicon in there.

Hey, I actually found the book while in Texas... and not only did they forget Knock Out, but the editing was subpar and it's really not that helpful at ALL. I might even do a video review of this book, but in the end, it was $5 so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
"Till all are fun!" That made my friend POWERRAGE.

Still bothered by there being no Knockout. Sure, they got Cliffjumper and Skyquake, but not KO? LAME!

I know and cliffjumper was only in a few episodes. Skyquake in less.

Cliffjumper was in one episode and dies in the first fifteen minutes of it. I suppose Skyquake at least had Dreadwing reuse the same design later... but still, it's bogus!
