Description
Some art for Chapter 5 of An Imposter's Fate.I'm very happy with how this one turned out. I've been practicing using bounce light and another new art technique I learnt recently in a great book (Harley Brown's eternal truths for every artist -Highly recommend).
Tones in shadow. To sum it up simply: "When a light value is warm, shadows should be cool. When a light value is cool, Shadows should be warm" (This doesn't count bounce light those).
As you can see here, what I did was use a very very dark brown/red (warm) with low saturation (side closest to the grey scale on a cool wheel) for the shadows and for the lighting a very pale blue/white (cool) since the Skeld has blue lighting. Also, blue cool lighting helps to add a creepy effect to the picture since warm colours we associate with things like warm cozy beds- safe spaces and I believe blue has the opposite effect but the er, details of that one have escaped me right now
Also, bounce light (if you don't know what it is) is light which reflects off of a surface from the main light source. An example of that is on 4116s feet, you can see a grey/white which is the light bouncing onto the floor and then reflecting the floors colours onto 4116 (Do note those, that bounce lights strength depends on the strength of the primary light source and it shouldn't cover up all the shadows since it's a sort of reflection and with distance form the light source, reflections grow weaker/more opaque).
