Description This is a commission I did for some old family friends over winter break. I know, right?! Who wants to do stuff that requires effort when you're getting your break on?

Anyhizzle, since they've known me since the days when I used to draw sexy axe ladies, sexy Master Chief, and... cats... they asked me to do one of those. Despite having seen my recent work, I'm not sure they knew that I've long since moved away from that stuff, but I tried my best. I gave her birds instead of an axe, because lets face it, birds are awesome.

Also awesome is that I finally had time to bust out the colored pencils for the first time in almost a year. I know using the metallics is art taboo, but dang are they shiny! 8D

My scanner was in another state when I did this, so feel free to blame any odd colorations or shadows on my camera. Don't worry, it can take it.

This is so amazing~ Don't worry about using a camera to capture the image; that's all I have to use for my pics since I don't own a scanner. Anyways, the image itself is really gorgeous~ Even if you separated the different elements in the image, each separate element is in itself a beautiful thing. The woman is an intriguing figure. She's a bit haunting with the clash of warm colours for her hair and cool colours for her clothes and around her eyes. The ways her hair fades into the motif of birds is really nicely done. You're right about birds being awesome: they are! 8D And, I have to say something about the arches in the background- the star design of them is so pretty. I don't know why, but the stars just catch my time every time I look at the pic~

Great job on everything! I hope the commissioners liked their picture! ^_^

Oh my god, this is like, five years later... D:

Thanks, m'lady! It took some serious hand-crampage, but I guess it was worth it! :3

Yeah cameras are pretty rad. Your pictures always turn out really well, too! In fact sometimes I think the quality of the images on camera is a lot better than with a scanner. Like, if you’re scanning things with a lot of color it gets all washed out, or if it doesn’t have a lot of color it still gets washed out, or mysterious lint finds its way onto the scanner bed and gunks up the image... *sigh* Don’t even get me started on that diagonal-cropping shit. *grumblegrumble*

I’m so excited that you picked up on the color differences! It wasn’t intentional, but that just makes me like a million times more excited that you noticed. And then times that by a billion that you commented on how it added to the character’s aura. Most of the time I don’t even pay attention to that stuff. But you’re right on! One thing that always concerns me with mixing cool and warm colors is how it affects the cohesiveness of the image. Even that kind of simple color theory can kick my ass without even trying D:

Oh, birds. Life would be so empty without them

I’m so glad you like the stars! I was a little worried they'd be too trite, but sounds like it's all good Shading that tiny of a space with colored pencils is a pain though. Especially since I don’t own a pencil sharpener. (But there’s something to be said for sharpening pencils with a knife. You feel like a badass, and you get to improve your whittling skills! Win-win!)

Haha, sometimes I wish I had a scanner to work with instead of a camera. My hand isn't the steadiest, so the image gets all fuzzy. If I had a scanner and a colour program like Photoshop, I might be able to make half-decent images!

lol~ I'm glad I could make your day so awesome by commenting on the colours. It was just a detail that I picked up on when I was looking at the pic. I love colours of all kinds, and I like them more when they clash. It makes for a more interesting pic.

I especially love the stars Sharpening pencils with knives is the awesome badass artist move.

(five years later)

THANK YOU! Well, I try

Yep, I do most of my stuff on WC paper actually. Bristol has been known to buckle under the force of my iron fists ruthlessly crushing colored lead onto the surface as I attempt to make something pretty (translation: I color really hard). So water color paper holds up miraculously well Plus, textured surfaces are so much fun!

Thank you so much!

They totally are! Until they poop on you, (which happened today), although that was a seagull. I kind of expect that from seagulls *grumble*
