The progress of my recent model!It was a ton of work and I redid many of the elements over from scratch completely (wings, facial rig and textures) and while I'm not 100% satisfied with the result I think I learned a lot. Especially the textures, i was ready to give up and just do the lazy version I always do, but luckily I was told they're too simple. So I redid them from scratch, doing a ton of research and although I still see a lot of room for improvement I think they came out decent.
Here are some things I changed about my texture workflow:
-instead of using a single material I used a few different ones and blended between them using a vertex group (the body was a mix of over 4 different materials: round leather, vertical leather, tiny detail leather, worn out leather etc...)
-Instead of setting up the entire final texture in Blender I baked different elements and put them together in my drawing software (it was extremely slow since the textures are 8k but so much easier to work with!)
-For painting textures I used a few custom brushes alongside the regular round one and I'm definitely going to start doing that more. I was starting to get lazy towards the end, but it would have looked even better if I tweaked the textures with some textured brushes
-I finally made a material library xD Up to this point I've been grabbing random textures from my texture folder, they're all in different sizes, styles, and I needed to import each map seperately. Now I created a .blend file and set up all of my materials in there so I can quickly choose and import the material I need. It's so much better than what I had before.
So that's it! It was fun working on him, but despite redoing the topology, textures and rigging I feel like I could have done an even better job. Next time I'm doing a sculpted character with a strong design, the best possible topology and amazingly detailed textures xD
