As much as I love Crash Bandicoot, I'll admit that I didn't grow up with Crash Team Racing all that much. I think I played the game once or twice at friends' houses, but we mostly played Mario Kart 64. I actually grew up with Nitro Kart and Tag Team Racing more, simply because they were on a console that I actually had. Nevertheless, I wanted to pick up Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fuelled for the PS4 the moment I saw that awesome trailer back in 2018. I was completely blown away by the N-Sane Trilogy from a couple years back, so I was hoping that the 1999 racing game would be done justice.

After playing the game for a few days, I think it's safe to say it's one of my favorite games now.

It's simply amazing how much content has been pumped into a brand new game, with all sorts of characters and tracks from previous games given a fresh coat of paint. Extra props for making the Nitro Kart tracks absolutely gorgeous, Inferno Island and Electron Avenue are my favorite re-done tracks. And of course, how could no one love having Crash's girlfriend Tawna and even the trophy girls from the original version as playable characters?

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fuelled is a wonderful love letter to the franchise's racing games of yesteryear. It's been a lot of fun to play, and I can't wait to see what future awaits for the series - whether it's a remake of Crash Bash or a completely original installment, I'm all for it.
