Description
PLS dont use the blur tool. plsDon't wanna erase everything on the outside at the end? Use the magic tool/clipping tool/protect alpha your base color and color on top (´▽`)~ I just got lazy lmao
I was asked to make a tutorial on how I color/shade on FireAlpaca, so here it is!
Tbh, I choose random colors, pencil tool it up, mess with the opacity, and slap it on. Then thats done and I choose a different color and repeat the process. SERIOUSLY SO EASY AND LOW EFFORT. <>
The methods for coloring in FireAlpaca is so extremely limited, theres not much you can do besides cell shade, airbrush it, or do something with the pencil tool. This is a method of doing something with the pencil tool! FIREALPACA SUCKS WITH ITS BRUSHES. It literally has 3 brushes usable for coloring. DON'T USE AIRBRUSH/BLUR I actually don't like the look of completely blended coloring (it reminds me of smudging ew) and it's really uncreative and basic imo (unless theres a way to make it not look like the stated? idk I haven't seen it)
I prefer the look of lines and streaks; it's more realistic (and cooler looking)
DESPITE THE LOOKS AND ALL THE STEPS THIS WAY OF COLORING IS SUPER DUPER QUICK AND LAZY. I can color a whole piece with this method in about 1-3 hours (to me thats pretty fast ok I like detail). This isn't a method of blending btw, it's just piling on color and praying it works. Idk I don't blend lol
This is my first tutorial so sorry if its jank or lame looking I kinda got lazy making it lmao.
*edit* I typed it out! ayy

The cheapest way. Turn the transparency of the brush to 50%

How exactly do you clean the edges? It's not entirely clear for me ^_^

1. get the wand tool
2. turn off the colour layers and just have the lines
3. select the part of the image that you don't want coloured
4. use the eraser
i hope this is still helpful ^^

What's your vendetta against blur or airbrush tools? I use both often, and I'm not sure why you recommend avoiding them?

Yeah! Izzy4626 Simplified it up pretty well lol
Mechanically: So for this style of colouring, the effect and main point was not to create a smooth transition between shades as airbrush and blur tend do, but to learn how to use the pencil tool and manipulate new colours in a way that the streaky lines are subtle yet still apparent (by using the darker/lighter/pastel colours to "blend" the laid down colours"). It gives a whole new texture, and even, if done particularly, this style of colouring can still create smooth shades, it's just obviously a different type of shading from airbrushing and blurring.
I was just demonstrating a new and unique technique that I've experimented with, as I've noticed that airbrushing and blurring to me seemed like an obvious pre-existing style.
Personally: For myself I really just don't prefer airbrush and blur tools lol So the bias against it must've shown through the tutorial and I apologise haha There's nothing wrong with them! It's just that especially with my own art style those tools don't fit my art at all. Sometimes a perfect, air-brushed look isn't always ideal for a particular style [of picture or lineart] that's put down.
But don't let this or that discourage you from using any tool that work or best fit your style! The best thing is finding a technique and tool that you're most comfortable with whether that be one thing or the other, compromising an in-between, or combining all sorts of mediums : )

I guess it depends on what kind of art you do. To give art a soft look I'd probably recommend it, but if one does it when they use line art, it looks pretty ugly imo.

So basically I have been going everywhere asking people the same question. My layer tab disappeared. Is there any way to get it back?

There's a toolbar across the top of the window. Click "Window", and a drop-down menu will show up. On the menu, click on "Layer", and the layer tab will come back.

Tell me about the lack of brushes ugh =-=
I just resort to cell shading
Think I'm gonna try this though, it turns out looking really cool o3o
just a question, do you know about the clipping option for layers? Cuz that can make things a lot easier

ChoppinStix In reply to Suzumichii [2015-06-15 08:39:30 +0000 UTC]
so sry late reply omg i'm so trash Ooh yes yes I know of the clipping action haha Honestly when making this tutorial I was just whipping it out.
I don't usually clip the layer since it involves a layer on top the base color and I, personally, just do my coloring + shading on one layer (coloring on top of the base color on the same layer) because i'm lazy. Because I like to use one layer, I usually 'Protect Alpha' the layer or magic tool a certain area. Basically my coloring process is just one big ass one-shot lmao.
Especially for a small area like this, I don't mind physically cleaning it up if I can't be bothered to do fancy layer-function work LOL
