Its the value, just try one color darken it and paint on the base as shadow. after that adding some light with a lighter value of the same color, and at the end adding some reflection of light with even more lighter value on the same color. This is just the basic, actually the light and shadow is not always the same color. It depend on the color of light and color of dim light, color of light will affect the color of reflection and a lil bit for the main color while dim light will affect on the shadow part, try to think a lil bit like scientist...it will help...always ask a question when u are drawing....like "will there be a reflection of light that cause the shadow of object be a lil bit diff in color?" "how does the color of light affect my reflection color?" "what is the relationship between colors? ex. blue + red = purple"....u see.... :3

LOL! i hope this one help tho...but i dun know this is the correct way or not >.<...i use this way when i wan a direct paint only...if there is line art, i wont use this way to color the hair...>.<
