Description
I've done a number of Batman commissions, but I'll probably never get tired of them. Batman has a design that is probably more flexible than any other. You can do almost anything with him and it can still work. I don't think I've found MY Batman yet, but maybe it'll come eventually.Markers, watercolor and color pencil on Bristol.

This is Fantastic! Totally Awesome! I'm tempted to freehand and attempt this in the same medium, but I see me messing it up.

Thanks. Messing up is part of the process. I screw up all the time. It's part of the charm of working in traditional mediums. Go for it!

My favorite comic character looks great in your style. Love the fading bats from fore to back. Awesome.

And call it mine.

batman is one of my all time childhood superheros..!
facial expression kinda looks a bit gloomy rather than angry or vengenfull. is this intended, or just me?

Wow, this is great. Love the lighting, the style and the mood of the piece.
I feel like his face doesn't express the same feel as the rest. It IS Batman, but I feel his face should be as dynamic as his body.
Also, the hand might be just a little too close to the top of the page.
But way better than I've ever done.
Great job.

Looking at this I sense more of a Neal Adams/Adam Hughes mixture than Jim Lee or anyone else for that matter. The scene is very dramatic and flows extremely well. I really like the whole vibe of the picture.

quick question on your process, do you start with light colors then add up shadows and then drop the highlights and reflected lights?

ChristopherStevens In reply to Onikaizer [2009-10-08 11:56:21 +0000 UTC]
I start with darks and build up the lights. I'll sometimes do blacks later, but in most cases, I start with the black and build up from there. The highlights are always last though.

See I think the total opposite, I can't do much with Batman and make it look good. You got skills man, I love this.

Man, I have a hard time believing that. In fact...I already have proof to the contrary. That brilliant Superman/Batman book you did! That was a very slick Bats.
Thanks!

HA! I didn't draw Batman once in that book!

You didn't? Was there an evil Bats or something in there? I remember something Bats-like if not Bats himself. A Batzarro? Throw me a bone...it'd take me too long to find the actual book in my boxes hehe. In that case, I need to see a WyA Bats! Not want to...NEED to....and want to

Yeah I drew the Owl version, he's like an evil Batman.

Ah ok...It was a weird story, I remember that, but it was a cool looking version of Bats. My favorite stuff in there was the Bruce and Clark scenes. The subtle character scenes always impress me most in your books.
