Description
As a Joe Mad fan playing Darksiders II, it wasn't hard to get inspired. The game was a blast and I really liked the character of Death. Thought he'd make a fun painting subject and I was right.I didn't get very ambitious with the colors, but learned more interesting things on this one. For instance, colors not only dry at different speeds but have different finishes too. The burnt umber I used for most of the figure has a real flat matte finish while the prussian blue has a semi gloss finish. I like the gloss finish. The paint still looks wet and that's just cool to me.
Speaking of drying times, titanium white takes forever. Today was when it finally felt dry enough to scan and I finished this piece over two weeks ago. Strangely enough, I mix titanium white into just about everything, but as long as it's not pure white, it'll dry pretty fast. I'm learning techniques to speed that along a bit. Oils are a strange kinda animal.

Real nice; I like how the colors fade with shaded ends.
I played/love the first one, but the controls felt a bit stiff, and heavy, but I still stay with it as a personal fav; I want to get the second one, but I'm guessing it kind of holds the same. Β

I expected Death to be a jackass like Kratos, I was surprised that the guy was a very likeable dude, felt like a human could have a sociable chat with him.

Awesome man! You're getting so damn good with these!
You can always use some type of varnish once the paint is dry to give the entire painting the same finish, so you won't be stuck with some matte bits and some gloss bits. Just another thing to throw into the mix.

Thanks. Yeah, hehe another thing to try out. I've been meaning to get some varnish, but haven't gotten to it yet.

Thats bad ass, Chris.
Not sure you can do this with this medium but i spoke to an oil painter who do those gaming cards and he bakes his painting in the oven to speed up drying. He uses oils though i'm not sure what type of results you would get.

Thanks, man. I was told about that. Scary idea, but I guess that's a common solution. I've been using a hair dryer, but it hasn't been really helping. Ugh.
I saw you listed as a guest for the Nashville Comic and Horror thingy. Is that right? I'm planning to check it out.
