Description Another quick practice piece. I'm back from the fencing tournament, and spent most of the plane ride looking out the window, studying the clouds.
So, I had to draw some.
The clouds were the quickest part of this piece, by far, but I think they turned out well. I did have to re-draw them a few times to get them right, but I'm glad I did.

The clouds on the bottom use the same method that I used in my last picture. I tried to make the ones on the top more feathery to represent cirrus clouds. The floating town was fun, too. I usually find forests, or natural backgrounds to be a bit easier, so this was a good challenge. I'm especially proud of how that sundial, and the stairs turned out.

Also, Pahul [link] helped me out with a rather helpful redline. That improved the composition and perspective in this piece rather nicely.

Your clouds fill me with love and joy. So beautiful.

This is a very refreshing take on the whole "floating world" idea, I think. It's fantastical, yet homey and village-esque at the same time.

Silly detail to notice, I know, but your solitary human is very well-done and fits in the scene well. I think you've come a long way with your humans.

Thank you! I always enjoy those sorts of floating cities and villages in games.

This one was a speedpaint, so those clouds are actually very quick. I'm starting to learn how to use brushes. The clouds come from a tree brush that I thought looked quite good with a bit of smudging and blur. I did use a brush as a base for the human, there. I made quite a few little adjustments and added details and lighting to give it a more unique feel.

The sky was especially fun. I don't draw clouds on the bottom like that very often.

It is indeed. A sundial like that would be rather fun, I think.
I've seen plenty of floating cities before, but I always enjoy them. Drawing the sky in this picture was quite a fun exercise.

This is really some amazing, and very creative Art.
I think that pole is standing for sun clock, if am I wrong, tell me.
I love small detail spread into Art, it is very well fit, and That Person standing, watching the sky. It is epic, no more description.
I don't need to mass up Comment with bunch of words that I have no idea about.
It is just epic, that is all I need.

Sorry for the delay on critiquing this - got sick this week and had to reassess my plans a bit.

This REALLY looks nice, I love the clouds and sky work - they set a great mood for this and really make it captivating. I also enjoy the subtle purples and blues back there.

My biggest issue is the up close rendering. You've got this tightly rendered feel to the clouds and then we have abrupt - not always clean - transitions in the foreground. You have the right level of contrast, but I would like to see some more consistent bits. The thickness of the sundial appears to fluctuate a bit based on the edge we're shown, but this could be the shakey dark to mid lines we see. I like the rawness, but I feel that perhaps a little tightening up and blending in key spots would help that. Also the curve of the upfront edge could be stronger... I think it's not quite making the dial look fully "round". But it's close, real close

Other than that, my biggest fear is that we're missing the chance to see some neat stuff as the purple scheme is carried through the side buildings.... I like the purple's in back but introducing some browns subtly up close may give us something to grab on to.

Either way, this is lovely - I'm glad I got the chance to look at it

Don't worry about the delay. I'm grateful for the opportunity to receive such an awesome crit.
I've been thinking of starting a thread on the ConceptArt forum, but haven't to around to doing that yet...

The buildings and foreground were the toughest part of the picture for me. I tend to draw rocks and trees a bit more often than buildings, so I think that is one of my weak areas at the moment. So, I'll try to practice that a bit coming up. I'll keep all that in mind.

Adding in some browns and more color variation as things get closer to the POV is a really neat idea, and I didn't think of it on this one. It would make quite an interesting effect, and help make those closer buildings a bit more interesting.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thank you again for the crit.
I always find your art inspiring.

I totally agree with starting some CA.org threads - I've enjoyed putting up a sketchbook this summer actually. Not a lot of feedback but it's at least fun. The WIP forum is getting good flow though lately so that would be a great place for feedback. They'd probably give better advice than me

Keep up the great work, you're doing well!

beatifull concept
the sun in the horizon behind the cloud gave it a wonderfull nostalgic atmosphera
i think in a personal way that a little bit more of blur on those cloud could work or a little bit more of smooth
