Description
My last-minute rush for Christmas this year wasn't spent dodging angry crowds at the shopping centre (I'm not that dumbAnyway, I think the reference to Christmas is more in the title than the artwork itself. But you can see where I'm coming from. Plus It was fun doing something gold and glittery, unique among the mostly "blue" Christmas submissions I've done in the past

the rings are so cool with their golden color, imagine the amount of asteroids as you get closer to the rings, also have you throught of a possibility of odd life existing in planetary rings?, i suppose there could be a ringed hive mind of sentient odd-shaped asteroids that communicate via electromagnetic waves, radio, plasma, and other unknown methods.

Life on an asteroid ring sounds like a bit of a stretch to me, with no air, water, warmth or protection from radiation. It would be cool though, but I wouldn't count on it, especially due to the often short-lived nature of rings (even Saturn hasn't had its ones forever, and won't have any again long before the solar system ends too, making us quite lucky to be around during the relatively short period of time it even has any)

life on asteroids or asteroid rings could be silicon-based so they may be able to protect themselves from radiation and could feed on cosmic rays of stars and "defecate" radioactive gases and may not even need water, and i suppose sentient weird-shaped asteroids could be in other universes with different physical laws.

Beautifull. I kinda feel sorry for planet (it was hit by something very big, right?).

There's something about how you do these that's incredibly captivating. I keep looking at them and i have no clue how you did these or what program you used to make them; makes it a big mystery to me i guess! What program do you use for these; i really want to know! Just giving my appreciation!

This one was done in Photoshop, as are most others. Sometimes I do use some 3D software though, but that wasn't needed here

im not shure about the night side of the planet, but the rings, the colors, the mood, are amazing!

Chromattix In reply to RMirandinha [2013-01-26 02:36:29 +0000 UTC]
And yet the night side of the planet was about half of all the work involved
It was hard trying to get the lights to look brighter than real life, yet still feel somewhat realistic. It was harder still to create the effect of lights diffusing through the thinner clouds but being completely obscured by the thicker ones (if you were wondering what some of those dark areas of nothing were ) I was pretty happy with the rest though, considering I had less than a day to make this

Wallpaper use is OK. And yes, not as stereotypically Christmas-themed as my other ones from past years. But I've been meaning to do one like this for a really long time

This one is really impressive. Especially the vast space in the background is done just damn great and I really love the way you did the rings and the planet there Absolutely wonderful piece. I would love to see that from a spaceship and fly towards that golden star....Wonderful christmas picture

Thanks for the compliment I think minimalism was the key to the background looking good (and not being a distraction) just a simple nebula with fewer stars works way better when a close-up planet is meant to be the main focus
I'd sure love to see such a view too
Thanks for faving!

Teliko-Pardus In reply to Chromattix [2012-12-27 13:30:11 +0000 UTC]
You are very welcome I think that you are right. In that minimalistic form the background perfectly works as a background and does not distract from the planet and the rings, which are what you set the focus on
That was the background worked as what it was meant to be...and nonetheless it looks wonderful cause it gives the picture such a great, vast depth. It is just logic too that you do not see too much of the stars in there. Since the light coming from the star and reflecting on the rings "overcasts" the light coming from the stars and nebulas in the distance. Very well done at all once again. I totally enjoy every single picture from you. Thanks again for another year of awesome stuff
Merry Holidays
