Description This is your chance to get a view of all my calendar artworks without the distraction of a composite deviation letting you appreciate each work one at a time. I even took the liberty of putting a brief description of what type of land you're looking at and a thumbnail of the planet as it appears from space in the corner. The month is listed on top once you start browsing. Sorry, all text is English-only. The artwork in the calendar itself does NOT have any borders or text, just the image taking up the whole page alone

I must give a HUGE thanks to for doing the flash work for this, while I created all the frames and little parts here and there, he's the genius that strung it all together in this interactive slideshow of which I hope works well on your monitors. If you have time go check his gallery out too!

No critiques please!

Calendar can be purchased here!

I can't breathe.
This is the most amazing project I've seen since I'm on deviantArt and this is probably my new number 1 favorite as a deviation.
Congratulations !!!

what program did you use to create the jupiter one?

Chromattix In reply to KarinaLunaria [2014-04-14 01:56:37 +0000 UTC]

That was pretty much all just painted. I did use some Vue terrains at weird angles in a hazy atmosphere to give me some kind of base and depth to start with, but they came out very "plastic-looking" so it required many hours of tedious overpainting in Photoshop.

Since then I've done better gas giant "landscapes" in a newer calendar www.deviantart.com/print/34572… Try clicking on March, July and November there. I think they're more realistic but still "idealized" since I really think you wouldn't see much at all in a gas giant, probably more like an endless fog or haze as the cloud formations are too big to really appreciate like you can with ones on Earth which are on a much smaller scale. Though the "July" image may not be a gas giant like March and November definitely are, I was undecided about that. It could be a "Super Earth" covered in a boiling sea and a dense atmosphere

But maybe I'm wrong about the endless haze view of a real gas giant fly-through. Part of me hopes the cloud formations are like fractals - they repeat on a smaller scale, so we only notice the big ones from space but up close smaller cloud details might still show up

What an AMAZING series! I particularly loved your depictions of the atmospheres of Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune! You truly captured an unearthly beauty in skyscapes human eyes may never see. Yet, I was struck that among all these wonderous worlds, none is more peculiar than our own. Earth is truly the jewel of the solar system. All this just around one ordinary yellow dwarf star. Just imagine what awaits us in the rest of the galaxy.

Chromattix In reply to Mojomeerkat [2012-11-17 00:56:06 +0000 UTC]

It was fun creating the gas giant atmospheres, especially since I can really imagine them without being held down by real photo's of them (since none have been taken yet, I'd love to see them drop a camera into the atmosphere of Jupiter and see what we get ) But indeed we only get bored of Earth because we see it every day. If we were on the outside looking in, such as an alien race for example - we would definitely be much more interested in Earth than all the others. I know I would, if I saw any other solar system my first wish would be to see the life-supporting planet (if it even has one ) Though the skies of the gas giants would be a close second

Now I remember why I was never into space! Just the thought of how far away they are and inhospitable they are intimidate me!
The concept of how they possibly look on the planet is really awesome though. o.o

My philosophy is - there's no point being worried about something so far away that it can't possibly have any effect on us

I wish I could but this calender with money from a debit card~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to HiddenxWolf [2011-12-07 16:17:50 +0000 UTC]

I don't think I've even used a debit card, I might have one attached to my PayPal account - I can't even remember

After I got PayPal though I've had no trouble buying most things online...as long as there's enough money in there Might be something worth considering for later

HiddenxWolf In reply to Chromattix [2011-12-07 16:27:24 +0000 UTC]

Might be~ But I haven't heard alot of good things about Paypal. My one friend was telling me that she was ripped off by some guy after she tried buying something online, and another friend told me that there card information ended up getting stolen.

Chromattix In reply to HiddenxWolf [2011-12-07 23:28:47 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, those issues are part of online shopping in general rather than PayPal exclusive thought. Paying through credit card can still result in your details being stolen if you password or PIN number is weak. And there are plenty of scammers out there too. They're harder to avoid, but basically looking at a site's reputation and testimonials could be a good indicator, sometimes you can tell a company or person is dodgy just by their site or use of words I usually buy most of my online stuff on Ebay and people are too worried about their ratings there to rip people off. If I buy from other websites I usually look out for legit companies

HiddenxWolf In reply to Chromattix [2011-12-07 23:47:57 +0000 UTC]

Me to. I mostly buy from Amazon and generally GoHastings. Their a great company that I've had no problem with. I can't say they ship extremely fast ( few hours after you order ) but the time they ship is fine for me and the stuff I buy online arrive 1-2 days before the arrival estimates (: I may decide to use a paypal account.

So many of these are so realistic!
I can't decide on my favourite one, they're all just too epic. I love how you've portrayed all of the gas planets and the first 4 planets are also beautifully designed and coloured. The close-up of the comet is a very interesting idea, it took a while to figure out what it was but it's fine now - great nonetheless

This calender is outstanding, keep it up

Chromattix In reply to Empty-Mind100197 [2011-11-28 23:00:54 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot. I rarely see gas giants shows from surface level - probably because there's no ground to make a landscape out of, but they can still have interesting scenes made out of their clouds alone

The comet one is probably stylized and only as it would look when it's near the sun and venting out a lot of snow and gas from the ground

Well, I'm going to be out of the picture until then, so I guess so.

Maybe when I get back, I'll buy this one for the sake of its brilliance.

Then again - art is one of the things parents would least likely buy for anyone - most regular people don't see much value in it
