Description
I took this a year ago with my old sony... I ahven't had the courage to put it up... it was a bad day for me... thats a casket in the background... my 3 year old nephew kept telling me how sad he was but didnt know why... he couldnt explain himself... he was too young to understand death... but he was receptive emotionally and for the first time in his life felt everyone elses emotion but didnt know it... This is a moment that I think will live in me forever... his emotion somes across his face all the time... but i didnt think I would ever see pure sorrow on a 3 year olds face...ever... I still ask myself .... why?Model: Joe
For the competition this is entering, the feeling of loss is great...I felt it more than my model did...but he has an expression on his face that is obviously an unkown or "lost" feeling. He was a little boy at a funural and he felt lost in an unkown emotion.

beautiful shot... you can almost see what he's thinking. i took a picture with a little fuzzy camera of my cousin, when she was three, putting a flower on her father's ashes, so your pic really jumped out at me. thanks.

awww these are the moments that make some of the best pictures if you can capture the pure emotion...this little guy didnt know the whole story of what we were there for...but he picked up emotions of why we were there and it was a beautiful moment that even he felt all that the room had to offer...between intense sadness, love, and even some happy moments...it was an experience and this quick shot that I didnt realize was so powerful until I uploaded it, made it a moment in memory that will live forever
I also found it very difficult to find a way to take pictures respectfully at a funeral...children are the best way to it...I bet you had a hard time watching a little girl at her fathers funeral...this funeral wasnt my mothers funeral but my aunts funeral...and she had 4 kids attend 3 of which are my sisters now...the youngest at the time was 9 and I thought thought that was hard a 3yr old would be difficult
I'm sorry for your loss...and I'm glad you appreciate this picture...many don't fully understand it's significance but you can obviously identify with it...thank you

I'm so glad that you had the courage to post this photograph. The pure emotion of a small child is the most beautiful and most heartbreaking thing in the world.
I can't imagine how you managed to capture this, but that's part of the magic. Fantastic shot- this is what art photography is really about.

Geez that's one of the toughest things to see; a kid who's so miserable but can't even grasp the whole concept.
This is heartbreaking and fantastic all in one. Amazing

thank you =]... I think it's one of my best captures... I find it hard to capture true emotion, it has to come through in a snapshot... it's not something that you can set up =/ ...thank you for the fav

Well, admittedly I haven't seen much else of your work, but this is the most emotive thing I've seen on this site so far. And I'd nominate it for a daily deviation if I knew that I could or how to do it.
Yeah you hit the nail on the head, it's incredibly difficult to catch someone when they're truly feeling something.

very impressive for me...you captured the moment very good...the whole feelings of loosing and sadness are in it...
how the boy is standing there, looking at the ground...so damn hard full of emotions...
when looking at it...Iยดm shaking a bit...the color and the light are great, and your frame with the black and white underlines the whole scenery very good
definitly a fav...

there's a lot of emotion that is caught in a single point of view displayed on a single photograph. despite the melancholic occasion, i'd say this is quite a successful photograph. the shadows and contrasts are brilliant. it's unfortunate that the photograph's origin plants a view of a different sort for the photographer. sorry to hear about the loss, but amazing capture my friend

why thank you =] I'm glad you like it...it took alot out of me... I dunno if it's me, but I think it's weird taking pictures at a funeral... it's not usually something you want to remember... but I think this captured the memory in a subtle statement without having it to creepy

yeah I spent maybe an hour on it... it was taken with my old crap sony and so it was poor quality that took some work... then the light was crap quality and I had to figure out how to add light without overexposing the backgrounds...and oh, this was a hard pic to fix up, probably the hardest yet =/... but I think it turned out alright, thank you for the sweet comment... I think this picture sucked some energy out of me I never want to see this look on a 3 year olds face again

I work with children that age..... and i know that they do not understand life the way that we do. But they can also share their emotions in such different ways that we as adults can not. I really like that you have caputred this because a lot of people do not feel that children can feel sorrow at such an early age or even know what is going on around them, but they really do and we can not forget about them ..... Nice job!

I really hate to know what the occasion was, so please dont tell me. But his emotion isnt shown so much in his face, at least that's not where I see it. Its in the loose grip of his hands, and the relazxed posture. The way he hangs his head with his downcast eyes. This is powerful. Immense Emotion in this. I'm really impressed. Thanks for sharing this with us.
