Description
Due to us both not having any knowledge of good-ish locations on the High Peak Line between Hazel Grove and Buxton, I originally suggested we tried Dove Holes, where the main A road and the line come to within a few hundred yards of each other. However after shooting the train at Miles Platting, we decided en route to find a spot before Dove Holes with millions of people by the line and try it out first. We came to Furness Vale, and sure enough found a level crossing, and further up the road only a wall divided the running lines from the main road, with a pedestrian crossing which was packed out with photographers. So naturally we stopped, and liked what we saw.
Here 44871 is seen emerging from around the bend at Furness Vale, having just passed the station and crossed over the level crossing at slow speed.

Interesting composition, and the smoke is fantastic.
