Description The position of Planet meant that when Tornado pulled back onto the Royal Train, complete with a full ear piercing symphonic whistle duel and drain cock release, shot's like this were possible to get, with the locomotive form of genesis alongside the most modern steam loco in the world.

Planet - designed in 1830 by Robert Stephenson, replica built by volunteers of the MOSI.

60163 Tornado - originally designed in 1922 by Sir Nigel Gresley, following Peppercorn Class A1 blueprints with many enhancements, built in 2008 by the A1 Steam Trust at Darlington.

Whoever would have thought it possible, sixty years after the end of steam, we'd still be able to build a proper locomotive?

SInce the title of this photo was inspired by on of my own photographers i think i'll have to at the very least write a critque. Here we have a amazing shot for which is Generations Apart. Compared to my photograph which shows to different types of Traction, CJ has found a genreation gap between steam it self!. As you can see we have the brand new Torando and Relic Planet for the early 1800s there really is a amazing time gap. The steam produced in the image also is very atmospheric which is very cool, the only one thing i would have liked to see is the train side by side but you can't have everything. But congrats CJ.

The big, strong 'Tornado' towers over the little 'Planet' from ages ago.

The loco that started a mass take up of steam and the railway network and the loco that started the second golden age of steam being built from scratch there are at lest five that I can think of.

Very nice contrast between two different applications of the same basic technologies and principles- and I like the added extra touch of the contrasting surroundings, with the old cobbles in the foreground and the modern museum behind. The steam adds a real touch of drama to the atmosphere too

Both are, in effect, replicas, which makes it even the more interesting.
