Description
Yes, it's my first HDR!Using a series of 5 photos taken at the Severn Valley Railway just this past weekend of the shed pilot at Bridgnorth, and merged together and mapped using Photomatix Pro. What is everyones opinion on this?

The diesel locomotive is somewhat like that in real life and I believe that was his point in this photo.

Once again my watching of TTTE (Thomas the Tank Engine) has impacted by views on certain Locomotives and this is one of them. But in a good way. This was one of the few Diesel engines I didnt hate hands down. I like that you got a close up and detailed shot but the angle kinda is disagreeable with me personally. You tried to get the Side and Front views combined. How ever the front seems 'squashed' for lack of a better word. Though the Sides and Rear are less eyesores then the Hazard Stripe grill that is the front
Not bad. Not Bad at all

High-dynamic-range photographs are achieved by capturing multiple standard photographs using exposure bracketing, and then merging them into an HDR image. Digital photographs are often encoded in a camera's raw image format, because 8 bit JPEG encoding doesn't offer enough values to allow fine transitions.
This is not true with this image as it is in JPEG Format and has lost little in the conversion process apart from some depth which is only to be expected.
It is quite clear that this has been done the correct way by using five separate exposures instead of altering a single image, this is evident by the blurring of the foliage which only adds to the image by making the gronk stand out more and add's the depth that was lost in the jpeg formatting.

it is a diesel-electric. The class 04 locos are hydraulic.

Nice but a little too much. I love HDR, but sometimes it does not real, I think keeping more shadows is what is needed. If i say it looks like someone has been sprinkling talc everywhere if you get my meaning.

Nice. Even though I'm a North American Railfan, mainly due to me living in Canada, I like the Class 08s.
Over here, they would probably be classed as a "critter", a smaller diesel locomotive that is used for shunting railcars in large industrial sites such as millyards, steel plants and railcar factories, areas where a larger switcher would neither be necessary nor practical.

Ooh, I like this a lot. Having read the detailed critiques, I seem to feel much the same way: that a lot of HDR is over-the-top and it gets (frankly) rather tedious after a while. This isn't: it's subtler but (I think) more effective. Not by any means a loco I'd drop everything to go and see, but I think it looks absolutely right here.

At this point, I wasn't sure whether it was either a HD photo or a very convincing CGI Model...but the end results have had me in awe

I think its mint, but i love it because of it being a Shunter. Shunters have always and will always be my favorite train! Such a cool looking piece of equipment!

Nicely done, I think HDR needs to be handled gently and not over done. Think you hit it beautifully here. Well done.

I must admit when I got the software I spent maybe half an hour after the photos were merged getting it to this stage. Previously I'd tried in Photoshop, but not even half the effect seen here was given in CS3...
I'm glad you like it, thank you as always for your comment.

Very nice, and highlights the grime and worn appearance of this workhorse I do wish the SVR would keep its shunters in better nick though, its something this pic highlights is the 'worn' look of this loco (as the KWVR have found recently, these shunters aren't quite as ubiquitous as you might imagine, its harder and harder to get spare parts for them). Plus the SVR has, or at least had, an annoying habit of scrapping diesel industrials (such as four shunters donated by a local industry for use, and who's previous owners got I gather somewhat upset when the SVR chopped two on the spot, canibalised the third, then eventually got bored and dumped the fourth out of use).
Sorry, rant over Again, very nice pic!

Well as would I and as would anyone who donated a perfectly good loco for use, only to see it chopped and cannibalised. I'd probably have half a mind to take action against them for such a notion, even if it is only a diesel... But even diesel shunters and industrials are appreciated, just take the fabled yard at Shipley as a glowing example of how 08s and 07s can still be put to good use, if everyone saw this way we would possibly have double the amount of Gronks we have now...
Feedback is appreciated. Thank you.
