Description Of the 2 genre, and 9 species mentioned in the book, only these 3 mole snouters were illustrated, two of which were only drawn from a ventral view. But, thanks to the use of 3D modelling, and some imagination, I've reconstructed this family of snouters to the best of my ability. The colours are my least favourite part to do, because I know that my chances of getting them correct are infinitely unlikely, since, similar to dinosaurs, we don't know what colour most of the rhinogrades were. Now I know how paleoartists must feel.

Instead of me summarizing what these are and how they lived, you can just read about them here:Β www.sivatherium.narod.ru/libra…

And as always, Rhinogrades were created by the brilliant and imaginative Gerolf Steiner.

Three steps in a weird de-evolution of snouters into flatworms ! The final form has lost all mammalian and even vertebrate characteristics.

Thankfully the author segued into hopping snouters, after all these overly specialized forms.

Part of the horrific de-evolution of a snouter mammal into a flatworm. Supposedly some subsequently devolved further to flukes and tapeworms ! Yughhhdshs ...

Hey, maybe it did. It's not like Gerolf Steiner ever said his book was all dreamed up.Β Β

OH GOD. I'm thankful that this isn't a real thing. The desc sounded really legit, and I was confused how such a big nose could exist.

Then I went on wiki and it confirmed it as a Scientific Joke....

On Rhinotalpa phallonasus, what is that sphincter above the tail? And are those posterior nipples behind the rear foot?
In any case, I think this is my favorite line-up so far. I'm glad to see artwork of the other mole snouters because, as you said, they were only portrayed ventrally to show the simplicity of the body and the viscera.

The sphincter above the tail is actually a gland that sprays attackers with some kind of skunk spray analogue. Since their burrows are the width of their bodies, they can't turn around, so they often have to defend themselves against tiny land crabs that find their way in. And yes, those are nipples behind the rear pair of autopodium. I guess their placement makes it convenient for newborn young to find them.Β
Also, thank you! I think this is my favourite line up so far as well.
