Description
Practicing poses and anatomy...I wanted to try some muscle girls, so I used Chun-li from Street Fighter
Self proclaimed "the strongest women in the world"... It becomes true if you beat the game.
It was quite fun and very informative. I always based the anatomy on backbones, now I know that it's completelly different than what I thoght it was. Living and Learning
I even gave her a "Brazilian Butt", because... C'mon! there is no way a chinese women can develop one of these on her own O.o
She only has that divine body of hers thanks to the magic of art direction... and production decision on inventing on loads of sex appeal. õ_o
Of course, advanced critiques are always welcome

Is she supposed to be a pure blooded, Ethnic Han? I would get the need for a Brazilian lift if that's the case. However, There are several minority ethnicities throughout China that produce more voluptuous women naturally that she could have blood ties to.

It was a joke I did back in the day for the heck of it.
It's a common stereotype that Brazilians are ass afficcionados and I totally reinforce that stereotype cuz I am an irrevocable ass-man.
I'm particularly fond of chun-li when she's drawn or presented with lots of curves, thick hips and muscular legs.
But that's the deal. Back when I drew this, in 2006, I used to draw everything too slender and this was me pushing my structural comfort zone.
Today I draw WAY bigger asses and far more muscular characters.
Even on dudes.

I just keep this Chun-li art for the sake of looking back on how I progressed in terms of anatomy.

Ah. Well, I have seen a lot of back and forth on her design all over the place over the years, so it made me wonder if her background was deliberately vague. Sometimes Pure Han Petite, sometimes buxom like yours, often somewhere in between. Of course, comic artists have always been tempted to inject their own personal tastes into a character created by someone else, so without asking them directly, as I am able to do here with you, it can be difficult to say whether they are trying to faithfully imitate a trend or canonical Convention in a given instance, or putting their own original spin on it. With so much subtle variety with Street Fighter over the years and the confusion caused by traditional Anime/Manga caricaturizations, as established by Tekuza (who in turn was inspired by Leon Schlesinger), ethnic subtleties are a tricky thing.
I was just reading a Manga about the Inue, and they are the most unusual people in that they could pass for almost any people. The only thing someone unfamiliar with them can say for certain about them, ethnically at a glance, is that they are not at all black. Apart from that, they are something of an racial Rorschach test, not unlike a lot of Louisiana Creole, only in their case, you can rule out Asian but nothing else. The manga indicates that they have always welcomed outsiders of all ethnicities into their community since forever, so long as they conform culturally and spiritually to their ways. Similar to how Louisiana Creole don't care what you are so long as you are Catholic-ish (and tolerant of a little Voodoo, on the side). Racial diversity but cultural conformity.
The Han are SO homogeneous, a billion, far too similar, individuals, dominating a continent for 2,000 years. There have been Six sub-races among Europeans since the ice age, all roughly the same numbers up to 100 years ago, (when wars and birth control and other things began to helter skelter numbers). It would be BORING to draw Chun-Lee like every other Han. Extremely strong Han are so wiry that they really don't stand out physically from average. Superheroes should usually stand out, and not simply from cute hair buns.

This drawing featuring Chun-Li was 100% arbitrary and for the "why not" factor. I originally drew bodies without any hair so it was generic. But later I thought "would be fun if it was Chun-Li" so I did the hairdo.
There's nothing to read into. It's an old practice sketch made for the hell of it.
I never really cared much for such things cuz here in brazil there is just so much variation that things are basically a gradient. Everybody is so mixed that even if we're caucasian looking, there might just as well be traces of african and several european countries since we had tons of immigrants from all sorts. There are hill areas in the south of brazil that have heavy german heritage and they even mainly speak German. In my neighboring capital, São Paulo, there's a huge population of Japanese immigrants as well as a japantown which is intensely popular (specially with anime fans). Ethnicity and genetics in brazil is super complicated because of such things. More than half of the population identifies as "Pardo" which is between white and black, still many people who identify as such have very dark skin or very clear skin so it's somewhat blurry on the edges. There has been genetic mapping attempts at brazilian populous and we're almost entirely mixed with a very small percentage of close to "pure" european genetics. I have Portuguese, Italian and some african (from my mother's family) in me and I'm super pale anyway, yet my uncle is hardcore Pardo, beyond tanned, with some vitiligo spots. In terms of heritage, I'm mostly into the Italian part of my family cuz it's the part that stuck together the most.
All in all is just... Ok I guess. My opinion on genetics and miscegenation isn't academic or amateur level even. I had friends of all shades and I had enemies of all shades.
Sorry to disappoint on any eloquent discussion on genetics, miscegenation and ethnical anatomical variation and characteristics.
I do agree on your point on boring character design. All sorts of super heroes have fantastical or ideal proportions that don't really fit reality exactly and that's perfectly fine. It's fantasy and fun, there's no need for things to be ultra-realistic or there's little escapism. Without escapism and liberty of expression, the repressed mind only revolts internally and strongly pushes against it. I'm a bit more qualified to discuss on psychological aspects of expression, repression, escapism, catharsis and behaviourism.

What's interesting about you Brazilians is you have maintained your core Portuguese roots while diversifying your branches, culturally speaking. I define genuine progress as that, basically, carefully preserving the best of the Old and New. You are probably the most Culturally Centrist country in the world, and not self destructively diverse, like Europe has become, but have eased into it over centuries, never a stagnant gene pool like Han China.
Michael Crichton said, "Too much diversity is as harmful as too little", in relation to "Chaos Theory.
You Brazilians have found the "Edge Of Chaos", and look quite comfy to be there. You have perfected Social Libertarianism.
Now, if only you could become as Fiscally Libertarian as Iceland, or they as socially Libertarian as you (genetically stagnant Nordic Purists!)
In that regard, the USA remains the most uniformly libertarian-ish country, in BOTH fiscal and social goals.
Ah, well, Porcupines dream ever onwards and upwards...

This is not right, for the wait would not be that small for her thighs and breasts to quite so large, if at all.
I am not saying this is a BAD drawing, I am just saying you could have picked a better character, but over all this is a wonderful drawing.

I KNOW! RIGHT?
Proportions are all over the place and her waist is practically liedfeldian. It was how I used to draw girls back in 2006.
It's just an 8 year old drawing I made cuz I had never tried more detailed muscle groups.
It was ok for back then cuz I had NO experience with athletic bodies, muscle groups or different builds.
but it got faved a LOT since then cuz it's got tits and a slit.

Out of all the anatomy study s i use yours the most. Mainly because not only do you use almost every muscle to be shone beautifully, you use motion also.

You already know my special views on this picture - but as always, your bad ass skillz never cease to amaze me. Yes, I agree with you on the butt thing - however, it's a nice new look for her. The poses are fantastic, and I particularly like the one where she is sitting and we see her back. ^_^

Verdade, notei q vc desenha as mulheres ae um tanto mais marrentas q o padrão... Curto mt a Sakura, mas ela só tem um corpo definido, eu queria usar uma q fosse uma boa desculpa pra desenhar fortona sem parecer feio.
A Sakura é mt bonitinha pra eu "bombar" ela XD
