Description
Radical Racer: Maczek Sobieski

Maczek is an infamous lone mercenary tank pilot who fights for the highest bidder after being disgruntled at how the Tiamatian government isn't giving his father, a veteran of the Kholden conflict 30 years ago, proper compensation for his services to that war. He descended from a long line of renowned cavalrymen from Inverhn history but grew up in Tiamatia as his grandfather moved to Tiamatia to escape Charus influence in Inverhn during the cold war. He still honors his Inverhn heritage as he adorns himself and his tank with armor and wing decorations styled after the Inverhn hussars in Inverhn's history. He pilots an experimental cold-war era tank he got from an old hag in the black market, which can be piloted by a single person without needing a crew. He joined the Radical Race using his tank after hearing the prize for winning.

Maczek is pretty eccentric and effeminate in terms of his behavior and the way he dress, usually dressing up in drag though he still identifies as a cisgender male. In battle, he is rather brash and arrogant, and doesn't believe in being honorable and fair during battle, as honor for him comes from victory which he believes must be achieved by any means necessary, especially is hes gonna get bonus payment from winning. However, he is respectful to his enemies, showing compassion by not shooting those who are too weak to fight or to those surrendering, friendly treatment of prisoners, refusal to use weapons that cause prolonged suffering such as incendiary and cluster munitions, and even treating injured and wounded enemies since he believes at the end of the day, his enemies are just soldiers too like him.

Transportation: The Hussar

The XM-65 is a Tiamatian classified experimental hover tank developed 60 years ago during the height of the cold war between Tiamatia and Charus as a response to the new (at that time) T-60 main battle tanks developed by Charus. The tank features a turret-less casemate 150mm gun launcher which is capable of firing ATGM's as well as more conventional but caseless munitions with combustible cartridge casings and is equipped with an auto loader capable of firing 1 shot every 2 seconds. Its designed to be operated by a crew of 3, but can be operated by a single person in an emergency. In an attempt to replicate Neldevolian hover technology, It doesn't have a conventional propulsion system and instead hovers above the ground  through the use of several lift fans powered by a 1400 hosepower helicopter turbine engine which exploits the Coandă effect for stability off the ground which allows the tank to reach a maximum of 20m in altitude but is suggested to just go as low as 2-3 feet above the ground for concealment, though it suffers from a slow 50km/hr top speed which is slower than most contemporary tanks with traditional threads, it at least can reach those speeds equally sideways, reverse, or diagonally as fast as forward speeds. In terms of protection, its armor thickness is enough to withstand small arms fire and light cannon fire, but the absence of slat, spaced, and reactive armor in an attempt to reduce weight has made it more susceptible to dedicated anti-tank munitions. The project was cancelled as it faced a whole load of problems such as poor ergonomics, weight restrictions which gives poorer protection than contemporary MBT's, poorer performance than most other MBTs at that time (slower), and was deemed too expensive to produce and operate with only having 7 working prototypes made.

Maczek however manages to find one of the few remaining 7 models being sold by some old hag in the black market. He decided to buy it as he is in need for a single person tank as his crew usually dies in battle. He modified it with modern equipment such as an advanced fire control with a ballistic computer (which automatically make adjustments on elevation and lead based on current speed, range, target's speed, and direction), laser range finders, a more modern thermal imaging systems, magic sensors, laser warning sensors, high tech communication suite, wi-fi, cup holders, a new engine from a more a modern helicopter, CBRNA (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, arcane) protection, by-wire controls for faster response, and most importantly, decorative wings at the back resembling those worn by historical Inverhn hussars which his ancestors are a part of. He kept the old 60's-era infrared searchlight as a backup for when the modern thermal imaging fails or gets damaged. He also decided to forgo modern GPG navigation systems as he can just look at his smartphone (strapped on his wrist) for GPS. Maczek also mounts a ground radar from a Charusian tank destroyer on the spot where the pintle mounted 20mm AA gun used to be on, the radar is also modified to also locate air targets allowing him better awareness. The tank he got also has mounts for smoke launchers but they're already used up and empty.

Special Trick: 150mm Gun Launcher Ammo types

Though caseless 150mm shells aren't in service anymore, there are still surplus of them which Maczek frequently buys. He usually carries 4 types of shells in his tank.

First ARE low velocity HEAT (High-explosive Anti-Tank) rounds he uses on medium sized targets such as racers riding on vehicles the size of normal cars up to the size of vans and small trucks.
Next are Canister shots which Maczek uses on small man-sized targets such as racers on normal sized bikes, boards, scooters, roller skates, attached wheels, horse (or any other horse-sized creature) mounted riders, and runners.
For targets that are armored, has some form of shielding, either magic-based or technological, or massive targets such as racers with huge vehicles, he uses APFSDS (Armor-piercing Fin-stabilized discarding sabot) rounds which fires a dense high velocity dart carrying immense kinetic energies on impact.
And finally, Since there's no HEAT-T-MP (Multipurpose HEAT rounds) made for the 150mm gun launcher back then, he uses custom-made Proximity detonated shells (Similar to HE-VT rounds) for aircrafts and racers that can fly.

The 150mm Gun launcher is also compatible with ATGM's which can be guided to its targets, Arcane rounds which utilizes magic since magic and mages are relatively commonplace in Tiamatia, and Smoke shells, but Maczek decides to not carry those as he doesn't find them that useful based on his experiences (also, hes not a mage, so he cant even utilize Arcane Shells in the first place). Especially since he can only carry a maximum of 40 rounds in the ammo storage (10 of each type) which also stops him from shooting every racer he sees so he only targets those who he deem to be a threat to him or to those hes having a hard time catching up, especially since there are most likely hundreds of other racers in this race and he doesn't have enough ammunition for all of them.

Lucky Charm: 17th century cavalry saber

Its a family heirloom passed down from generations by Maczek's ancestors since the 17th century, Its a cavalry saber used by his Inverhn Hussar ancestors as a sidearm alongside their lances. And now hes the current holder of it. He keeps it to remind himself of his cavalrymen heritage and is always stored in his tank. He almost never wears it in his person though as operating a tank with a sword attached to his side can be very un-ergonomic, and he has no practical use for it. However, he always brings it with him in battle though as a form of good luck trinket.

Extras:
- His name is a reference to King Jan III Sobieski who led the famous Winged Hussars in the Battle of Vienna, and Stanisław Maczek who is a renowned Polish tank commander of WW2
- This character (and the "Inverhn Hussars" described in-universe) is heavily inspired by the Polish Hussars (Winged Hussars) in terms of theme and aesthetics, just more modernized while still remaining stylized.
- The Tank is based on a combination of multiple cold war-era vehicles irl. Namely the MBT-70/KPz-70 (general shape, gun, and backstory), Strv-103 (casemate layout, and capability to be operated by a single person in case of emergencies), M48 Patton (forward section shape), and the VZ-9 Avrocar (hover mechanism).
- I was listening to Several Sabaton songs on a loop while designing and drawing Maczek and his tank, namely Winged Hussars, Ghost Division, Uprising, and Panzer Battalion.
- This is a completely fictional character in a fictional world, so I used fictional places, countries, and events instead of real ones. But still has a basis on real ones.
- Disclaimer: any character or person resembling this original character, fictional or real is purely coincidental.
