Alternate title: "UGH, TOO MANY SATURATED COLORS, MY EYES, THEY BURN!!"This is a gift for a friend of mine who's fond of great horned owls (which I loosely based this on) and phoenixes, which I decided to combine here. This was a super fast digital painting for me, and it was really nice to just smash colors together and see what happened without using much logic in the process. The lineart is ridiculously messy, but I don't mind, as the process was fun.
Corel Painter X and Wacom Graphire 3 tablet, over a period of about three days.

You usually don't think to make a phoenix using an owl shape. More of an active dynamic wisdom vs. something old and static.

Oddly enough, though I am not the biggest fan of saturated colous, I don't find this upsetting at all. The contrast is lovely and just enough to keep things interesting. You can't tell the lineart is messy, this looks very solid somehow.
I am also reading Harry Potter for the first time now (I know, I know...) so owls and phoenixes are cool in my book as well.

I really appreciate that! I'm glad you think the contrast works; my piano teacher always told me that "contrast is the first rule of all art" so I've been trying to focus on improving the contrast in my pieces.

I really like this. Especially the way the feather tips seem to leave ash.
On a side note, I've been meaning to figure something out. Can tablets be used with any type of image editing software or just a limited few? I tried an internet search awhile back but it didn't turn up much at the time.

Thanks! I'm relieved it's easy to see that they're ashes, I was a little nervous it just looked like black chunks.
And I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure tablets can be used with any imaging software. I've used mine with a bunch of different ones without problem.

This is SO beautiful. I love the colors and all the little details. You painted the ashes and coals beautifully, and they are a brilliant touch. And the owl's face is so full of life! ♥
