This bird is very dear to me, as she often perches in my walnut trees, and hunts, as now she does, the squirrels that eat my songbird feed. But more than that, she once lifted up my neighbor's miniature dachshund by the neck as it was attempting to relieve itself upon my lawn, a habit that my neighbors had not succeeded in breaking. We all know that dachshunds are strong willed and brave, but now that dog relieves itself under guard behind the neighbor's house, where it belongs. A red tailed hawk makes for good neighbors here in Overland Park, Kansas, USA. The shot was taken in the dim light of dawn, her breakfast time.
