SPEEDPAINT: youtu.be/E-gW8I0GFcMfullbody with complex background commission for of their and mothcats, Aquarius and Saturn! god i don't think i've done anything so GREEN in a while, for some reason it's a colour palette i don't use very often. i guess its because is associated with plants and damn that stuff take ages to draw haha xD
really really enjoyed this commission though. i mean winged felines in a pretty sparkly background setting, who WOULDNT love that *_____* hope you guys like it! feel free to check out the speedpaint, and i'll also be posting the process pics for this later today~

Oh my gosh... This piece is just so beautiful!! 
Okay okay okay, let me just say that the raindrops on this piece is drawn so beautifully, and I love the shine and sparkle it gives off. I also just LOVE the palette for this piece. The cool green and blues makes the atmosphere so tranquil and sleepy, in a good way, and also I can just imagine the cool raindrops touching my skin and causing little goosebumps on my arms because that's the vibe this piece is giving me. But when I look over to the characters (the lovely mothcats I should say), I feel a sense of security and warmth, as well as being left in awe from their lovely expressions. I guess it's also because of the wonderful details in their fur and their wings that gives me the warm fuzzy feelings too. I can just envision the soft delicate texture of the fur and the silk of their wings... I have to add how I love the fact that the background makes the picture mystical from the barely seen trees... Plus, let me talk about the leaves. The leaves are just like the coolest in this picture because they look lifelike and tangible and when it reaches the foreground with the raindrops getting gradually bigger, it just makes it more lifelike that you can even feel how wet the leaves are. Also the light coming in from the background and the small tiny mushrooms are just the coolest, and it makes me stare at this picture even more because I love how it compliments not only the palette but also the shadows in the picture as well.
//Phew//... Okay, I promise i'm done. But this piece is yet a wonderful phenomenal piece. You did an amazing job and, as always, your pictures are always such a delight Jax!

YESSSS i'm so glad to hear you like the leaves HAHA man they gave me a hard time, i spent a good 10 minutes trying to figure out how big to make them and how many to put in *-*
but at least now i feel like my leaf game is stronger, SO MANY MORE LEAVES FOR YOU in future drawings xDD
and thank you for all the lovely words about the textures! as someone who's like, doing a doctorate in multisensory aesthetics i feel its imperative to be able to appeal to different senses in my art xDDD
initially the title for this piece was going to be 'petrichor' which describes that nice, earthy after-it-rains smell. but the word itself just didn't quite have the... ring i wanted lmao

HMMM backgrounds? i would say just compile a bunch of references and inspiration images of backgrounds you love for good composition/colour ideas. and then slowly practice rendering certain elements like rocks, grass, leaves, clouds etc... once you have a good feel for those its much easier just to draw on those abilities and lay them down in whatever background you want to do!

OK SO THE THING WITH THE LEAVES
i was struggling with the background a bit and deciding how i wanted the plants in the picture. so what i did was take a screenshot of the pic and roughly painted in some general leaf concepts in another file... and then realised i wasn't recording ;V; so you end up with that weird part where the leaves just kinda manifest out of nowhere haha OTL
i'm going to estimate the total working time for this to be ~11-12 hours?

Oh my god, this is just! SO BREATHTAKING! The WINGS! Especially Aquarius' outstretched wing (THOSE FEATHERS), but Saturn's wings turned out fantastic as well! And the way you painted their damp fur is SO NICE! And all the leafies and water droplets and GLOWY MUSHROOM FRIENDS! And the nice muted blues and greens! I can practically feel the misty, rainy morning while looking at this. <333
