Description Nope, this isn't at all directed towards artists who only draw/prefer realism. You guys are awesome, keep it up. This is just supposed to be relatable comic, about THOSE non-artist people who don't consider cartoons to be real art. These are usually the same people who will try to correct you on art-related stuff, critique DOODLES of yours, and even give you bad tips--because they have NO idea what they're talking about But really, honestly think that they do. I've met a frustrating number of people like this.

Annnywho. Finally forced myself to finish this today. I think I'm hitting an artist AND writers' block. D':>

Also, pfft--the shading in that last panel. x'D Then again, the rest doesn't even have shading.

EDIT: PLEASE do not take this as an excuse to ignore constructive criticism! If someone offers you constructive criticism and you brush them off by saying: "It's just my style!!" you're only hurting herself. YOUR ART STYLE SHOULD NOT BECOME A RUT THAT STOPS YOU FROM GETTING BETTER. IF YOU ONLY DRAW LEGS A CERTAIN WAY BECAUSE THE OTHER WAYS ARE "TOO HARD", THAN THAT IS NOT YOUR STYLE. If someone sees your art and offers some helpful tips, PLEASE try not to go off on them by saying: "It's just my style!!!"

But if someone says that your art looks bad, and that's all they say--or if they say that they don't like it just because they don't like cartoons/don't like the kind of cartoon style you're drawing in, that's totally different. Don't listen to those people, they don't know what they're talking about, or are being jerks to younger artists. This comic is about people who think that cartoons aren't REAL art or aren't GOOD art, either because they're snobs, or don't know what they're talking about. Not about people who are actually offering good, helpful, constructive criticism.

Please stop confusing the two, this is a pretty important lesson to learn if you want to get less butt-hurt and advance faster.

yEP, I've met people like this too. I don't get why people feel the need to judge the stylistic choices of artists. I get it if a person is just beginning with art, and someone has some suggestions. But if some one goes out of the way to tell someone who has their own style that they've developed and are happy with, and calls it bad that is NOT ok

MMMMMMHMMM.

Yeah. See, as I've said mannnny times before--I really appreciate constructive criticism. If somebody likes a piece of art by me, I want to know the in-depth explanation for WHY. And the same goes for if the legitimately dislike it, and aren't just a troll/bad critic. So when I meet other artists--especially adults who are way older than me--in real-life, I always end up showing them my sketchbook and ASKING FOR ADVICE AND OPINIONS.

However, when these OTHER people... The Generic White Kid from the comic... Who know NOTHING about art--and I repeat, NOTHING--try to correct me on stuff, and end up giving me horrible advice, it really ticks me off. Because these are the people who aren't even aware that art styles exist, and basically see everything in two categories: Realism, and Cartoonism. They see no difference in different cartoon styles, call every painting in a museum 'realistic', and never think about art. Ever. They haven't thought about art since the 1st grade, they're just a normal person with a different job.

And then they critique you. Horribly.
