Description
wow! my 100th jewelry submission here on DA!I really couldn't figure out which / what to upload... but as this is such a limited edition and the chain took an eon to create (okay, a bit less -but then i'm slow)...
taaadaa
#100
!!
I realized I just don't make a huge volume of work - even though I do this semi-full time. Its a miracle I could get 20 items listed today on my clockworzero etsy site. really! I just don't list a lot.. make a lot. I don't know how people manage to do it. hats off to you folk.
This is a magnetic switch. I'm trying to find more but they are really difficult. Made in the 70s and 80s - there aren't a lot around. I'm down to a very few, which makes me sad.
So I'm really trying to make each one into something extra spectacular. the chain is with made with some really cool hardware...and the switch goes through into... something? some electronic part. I swear it looks like a tv connector. no idea. anyone?
anyway, tis over on my etsy site at [link] where there are a few more photos. I just liked this drippy blue one

Hi, nice jewellery
Just thought i'd let you know what the part is that the neon bulb goes into, it's a BNC connector, generally used in radio and lab equipment. Very easy to get hold of.

hehehe. it kinda has that feel doesn't it!
Not a bad thing.
There's a woman here in Toronto that has a bunch of my "glass" bulb jewelry for her steampunk costume. I just dread the thought of her falling one day!

Nice, making steampunk stuff from relatively modern things, but
Hmm...what is so special about an old reed/magnetic switch...ive seen a ton of tubes and valves that look worlds more...shall i say *evil*.
To answer your question: That connector looks like a co-axial cable connector, and yes, they are found in the antenna wiring of a tv set.

not all the stuff i do is just steampunk but a lot of it has a rather cyberpunk twist. A similar one is being used in a cyberpunk commericial that is going to air next year. Still, I have had a huge amount of people into steampunk who are looking for a little more modernistic elements. I would say 99% of people don't recognize it
I would love to find some more "evil" ones for the designs. (i have some old mercury switches I've pulled out of recylcing depots - usually from thermostats - but I'm not sure if I should sell them). Do point me out some links. You can email me direct at zero.space @ gmail.com if you like.
The magnetic switches are difficult to find here and I've only got about 1/2 dozen left. I would love to acquire more.
Thanks for the connector info! I couldn't for the life of me think of what it was. I knew sort of but the word escaped me.
Thank you

Hmm mercury switches, those pretty glass tubes with lots o liquid mercury.
Dont ever distribute these as jewelry, i dont know what size they are...i have a few big examples of these, some *ARE* scary.....
( Especially the one that contains like 5cm³ of it)
If one of the big ones breaks youre in trouble, mercury droplets are ultra evasive...they hide everywhere making decontamination a pain.
Feel free to ask me if you got strange items at hand, i should usually have the answer or know a source for it

Congratulations on your 100th jewelry submission! I really like this one, like all of your steampunk-cyberpunk machine part ones. It's so unique and wearable.
