Elliott was absolutely exhausted. He was being worked to death, which he supposed he'd be in a good place to die at the funeral home, but lord. Everyone needed to stop dying. But the world kept going even if some did not, and so Elliott still needed to go shopping even after a long days work.
The sun was feeling as lazy as him as Elliott started making his way back home with heavy grocery bags weighing down his arms, and it slowly seeped down the horizon line, leaving the sky drained of its color as the night chased it away. A helpful, pink noibat was latched to the back of his head, while another was nestled into one of the bags. Wonderful, these two, but Elliott was a never ending fountain of patience, and thus made no complaint.
A sound above him made him pause in his step, looking around in confusion only to pause again when the noise sounded once more. The pink noibat tugged at his hair and directed his attention up to find a... oh... what was it? Some foxy pokemon he couldn't remember the name of. Tsking and shaking his head, Elliott carried on.
...
...
...
And eventually turned around with a loud, exasperated sigh, walking back to the tree.
"Are you stuck up there? Do you need help down?" He called up to the pokemon whose name still eluded him, unable to just leave the poor thing to suffer. Uuuhhgg, being nice. It was a curse as much as it was a blessing.
It was another of those rare days Amelia could leave right after her shop closed for the day. Her helpful Gardevoir and Lucario could take care of the family back home for the time being. For now she wanted to go to the local park and write for a bit while a couple of her more rambunctious pokemon played.
She made her way to a bench and sat, letting out her little squadron of Sentret before she started to write. As time passed and the sun started to get lower, she was drifting off a bit over the pages of her notebook before the sound of a voice nearby snapping her out of it. This caused her to yelp and fall forward off of the bench, landing on the ground in a small cloud of dust.
"oooooooooooow." She groaned as she sat up and looked around. She spotted her six pokemon curled up in a giant bed of sleeping tails and a man whom she had never met before... shouting at a tree. she rubbed her head as she got up and dusted herself off before walking over to the man , following his gaze into the tree and seeing a pokemon much like the one that tormented her every day in the fiction section, "What's going on over here?"
"Oh, hello!" Wonderful, Elliott's luck was looking up! Someone else who was around to assist.
"There's a, hmm... eevee?" Elliott squinted, "Special colored eevee? Though I suppose with the scorch marks, a flareon- anyway, Do forgive me, I don't have everyone memorized. They seem to have gotten themselves stuck up a tree, and well." Elliott raised his grocery bags, "I'm a little tied up and not exactly fit to be climbing trees. And... my pokemon aren't exactly the 'helping a poor, one tailed vulpix down from a tree' sort."
A curious glance was sent behind Amelia, looking over her pokemon before sending a bashful look back to her. Hm, he wasn't sure if she had anyone who was able to give assistance either but maybe he was just reading a book by its cover, "I... don't suppose you have any ideas? I do apologize, I do not mean to drop this problem into your lap ahah, you're free to carry on if you are unable to help."
Amelia cocks an eyebrow at the man as she looks up at the pokemon, staring down at the two trainers, "If I didn't want to help I wouldn't have come over." She smiles , "and I'm guessing by the fact that you don't know the name of this species that this isn't your fennekin?"
As the librarian waits for an answer she turns to her pile of sleeping friends and lets out a small series of whistles. With each whistle a different set of ears perks up from the pile. In a flurry of movement, six little noodle kites come barreling towards the two trainers happily. On point is the cream and magenta colored Sentret letting out happy chirps at his trainer.
"Oh yes. Fennekin! There's so many animals, I'll admit I don't have the names remembered for all of them." Elliott chuckled into his fist, bringing the grocery bag up to do so, hoohoohoo. He didn't respond to the first part. Hey, in his defense she could just be a curious onlooker, that wouldn't be a surprise. It happens! Be nice to him, it's late and he's tired.
"Oh look at them all come. Hello, hello~" Elliott cooed, wiggling his fingers at the pokemon. Whose names he probably didn't know either.
"Do you think any of them can give assistance? Suppose I could just call the fire department. They handle these sorts of things. A fire type in a tree- both the fire part and the something up the tree part."
Each of the little pokemon line up next to each other, some stumbling over themselves and each other as they attempt to stand at attention in front of their trainer.
"I think they may be able to help us out a little bit." Amelia says as she steals a quick glance at the Funeral Director who stands with his arms full of grocery bags. She then speaks in a loud voice, "Alright everybody! Totem formation pronto!" She holds out both of her arms in a T- formation as one after the other, each Sentret stacks itself on top of each other with their tails wrapped around another's ears. At the top of the pyre of fuzzy pokemon stands the shiny, trying to balance on his brothers and sisters while reaching towards the branch.
"If you could, could you help me get a little bit closer to the tree?" She asks, biting her tongue in concentration as she tries to balance the fuzzy squadron of Sentrets. Luckily for her, she had experience balancing large stacks of books like this, and had been working on a sort of group synergy between her little noodle army. That's probably why she looked like she was managing to balance all of them but she was still wobbling a bit as the pokemon just kept wiggling around. "Brandy has Charm, so he might be able to get the Fennekin to willingly come to him?" It sounded like she wasn't entirely convinced that this would work but it seemed.... Mostly reasonable? Hard to tell as he sees this smaller girl with six fuzzy pokemon balanced on her arms and head trying to get the top Sentret closer to the tree without toppling over.
Elliott's eyebrows shot up, watching the circus act with awe. The noibat's heads tilted back, their usual chittering silenced as they too were a little surprised by the act taking place. Wow. Elliott wished his batty crew were as coordinated- not that he didn't appreciate them to bits, but... they didn't always listen to commands.
"Oh! Uhm, uh. Hm." Elliott placed the bags down after settling them closer to the tree before stepping towards the ferret bridge, trying to figure out how to... actually help. The noibats who had taken up their perch in the bags were now crawling out, fluttering over to clamber up the length of the funeral director's body to latch to his back for a closer view to watch the spectacle.
"Mind giving some assistance, just a bit of lift will do the trick." Elliott scritched at his bat's heads, earning himself a chuffed chitter before the two took off, bumping their heads under their sentret of choice and flapping to help alleviate some of the weight, "Um... just step forward a tad, or two steps." Elliott raised his hands in the event he needed to catch a toppling totem of ferrets, but otherwise seeming a little loss for what to do.
"I'm sure a charm will work. Hello dear fennex, we're here to assist, do do us a favor and come on down! We mean no harm." ...the fennekin seemed rather amused, staring at the totem coming towards them.
“I really hope this works” The librarian laughs, a slight bit of panic in her voice as she takes a hesitant step towards the tree. With the help of the noibats, the weight was a bit less noticeable and allowed her a bit more confidence in her step. Once she was just close enough she called out, “Okay, Brandy! Use Charm!”
‘ Sen-tret! ‘ with a small little flare of pink the bemused fennekin started to pull itself away from the trunk of the tree and towards the Sentret. Technically the plan was working, but the one thing Amelia did not account for was if the fennekin jumped at them... which is exactly what happened...
In a glorious topple of pokemon and librarian, the impressive totem came crashing down as this small fox knocked everyone off balance. As they all landed in a pile, thankfully missing the poor mortician, the fennekin landed right into Elliots outstretched arms.
Amelia just raised an arm weakly from the pile in victory, “Happy to help.” Before she proceeded to lay on the ground pathetically.
Well. A noibat didn't seem to help much after the charm affect, as they made a delighted trill of a sound and fluttered away to give the sentret their full attention. Which. Weakened the integrity of the whole structure, and when the Fennekin pounced forward, Elliott could do nothing more than to watch the world go tumbling around him.
He was great help, truly.
Luck did have it in him for catching the fox pokemon however, and Elliott let out an 'oof!' sound when he skittered about to make sure he caught SOMETHING.
"O, oh dearest me, I am so sorry! Right bit of good I did there." The unaffected noibat fluttered down to perch on Elliott's head, while the other shook their head and huffled about. "Uhm, thank you so much, I appreciate it, here, let me just-- one moment, sorry. Very good manners, you." The latter half was directed at the fennekin who still seemed amused by the situation and allowed Elliott to transfer them to one arm, as the mortician reached out with the other hand to help Amelia up.
"I suppose I owe you one, if uhm, you ever need anything-- well... maybe you should, just not need anything from me actually, I give you blessings to never need a funeral. Good deed exchanged, hahaha."
The librarian gladly took his hand as she pull herself out of the pile and dusting herself off, "I'm just happy to help out." She smiled at him lamely, "I just wish I don't make quite a fool of myself while doing so."
"I'm always in the need for friends." She smiles, "I don't believe I've properly introduced myself either. My name is Amelia, I'm a librarian that owns a bookstore not too far from here. Stop by if you ever wanna chat... or if you ever want to see a fennekin and a mudkip topple a bookshelf." the girl holds out her hand to the man in front of her with the friendliest smile she can muster.
"You hardly made a fool of yourself. You were making a valiant effort to help someone and I can hardly call being a good Samaritan a fool."
Re-taking the hand to give a light shake once she had introduced herself, Elliott followed suit, "Elliott Witherow. I am a mortician who... is still an apprentice at a funeral home? Uhm... stop by if you ever want to poke a dead body. ...Just kidding though, you can't really do that. Unless they're your loved one, in which case I can't very well stop you. Hm. I do apologize, I'm rambling. A pleasure to meet you! Thank you kindly." He smiled back, nodding his head.
Amelia laughed at the joke, "It's a pleasure to meet you as well! I would love to stay and chat but I believe you had some groceries to attend to and I have a shop that has probably already burned down in my absence. One of us should probably also make sure that little troublemaker is alright and take them to the pokemon center." she says, pointing to the fox that was starting to make itself comfortable.
"OH! Right, yes. Oh dear, I have icecream in there- yes uhm, I'll just be on my way and, I suppose I can drop this one off on the way there." Elliott bowed nervously, skittering towards the bags as well, "I do wish your library the best, and hope for no burnings. Take care!" Juggling the fox and two bags... along with two clingy bats, Elliott waved his head in a farewell before skootalooing off.
Amelia waved at the mortician as he left before looking down at her pile of dizzy pokemon, "Now what to do with you lot."
