Two big flat heads with sharp teeth and palatal fangs keep lunging out of the water at her. She’s teasing them, leading them one way, then another. They do seem to be slowing down. Their stubby little legs move almost like the legs of windup toys when they try to chase her up the mudbank.

l just looked up some Eryops skull drawings— of all the temnospondyls, it has one of the smallest pineals (and they're all small). If it was an eye, on the scale of this drawing it would just be a dot. I'm gonna go with "it's probably vestigal"!

Oh, right, I forgot that. I used the Museum of Comparative Zoology's eryops skeleton as a model, and you can't see the pineal in my photos. A few vertebrates today have pineal orbits, like the tuatara of New Zealand, but you don't actually see a third eye on the head because it's skinned over, like a blind cave creature's regular eyes. Most Permian critters, amphibian and premammal, had pineal orbits in the skull. Did they actually have visible third eyes? I don't know. I've seldom seen restorations that show them.

Spooky in one of my fan-fics,just before my burn-out, was asked to - protrude his pineal body ! Then he was to make it into a receiving antenna for a bulk transfer of energy to convert to sound. His BOO, already formidable as is, would be boosted by the energy downloaded into him by the magicians, and then to blast his boosted boo through the horror-horn (a mere whisper in that horn came out as a POO-AH ! that made one's eardrums itch ! The terrific BOO suffised to release the school from its pocket dimension back into the real world. tho every window got smashed !
The parakeet has three eyes (tho totally roofed over by skull and feathers, it still perceives light -IF it can get through !)

My first comment, about the strata, was an uphill fight, due to persistent word processing problems. After 2-3 of these fights, I restarted in "safe" mode, and had no more trouble. I really need regular mode for sound, YouTube playing and sending text to the printer. There are bugs or viruses that need to be weeded out.
Two major asteroid smashes that would have decimated life planet-wide are known from the pre-Cambrian ages. Some of these ages are known mostly by strata arrangements, or even by moon events (major changes, such as a large "sea". I would love to see a big asteroid hit the moon and rearrange its entire surface ! But apparently all these smashes have already used up 99.99% of the rogue asteroids ! )

One of the reasons why I stopped cartooning was the growing temptation to do the characters nude, trying to find excuses to do so.

Any apologies were tongue-in-cheek. DA has its rules, and I try to explain why I mature-rated something. I do think it's silly to have to mature-rate underwear and bloody wounds, but I just follow the rules.
I try to keep Molly Blue out of the full-frontal nudity zone, just because, well, it's not that kind of story. But Dimetrodon Blues really is that kind of story. Just because I've drawn Kim Possible and Casper doesn't mean everything I do will be G-rated.
I'm still keeping my illustrations out of the underground comics zone, because DA says it doesn't allow that at all. But a nude girl distracting two Eryops? That's okay if she's adult (she's in her 20s), my own character, and if I mature rate it. I get stuff like this in my deviant watch messages all the time.

You see, I read a lot in palaeontology and am familliar with ages like the Cambrian, Ordorvician,Silurian,Devonian, etc. prior to the Cambrian(Ediacarian, age of monsters, and earlier ones are known from scanty evidence, or even wholly from strata \
