Description We were ever so worried
When we found the knotted noose
And scribbled diary entries
With tales of self abuse

Teenage tears and tantrums
Can easily be explained
But what on earth would cause these
Freshly dripped blood stains

We were ever so worried
When you locked yourself in your room
Painted the walls pitch black
And ignorantly we assumed

That this was just a phase
That it would soon come to pass
And pass it indeed did do
Far too soon and far too fast

We were ever so worried
When you dyed black your hair
No longer did we recognise
The child that was once here

Our precious little angel
Where did your shaken bones go
And why did you leave us here
With no reason and no note

We were ever so worried
To find an empty bed
No more teenage tantrums
Just endless silence instead

If we could bring you home
Take care and start a new
We'd sit our precious girl down
And ask 'whatever is to do?''

thank you so much for your kind words. I am not a parent yet but would really like to be and hope I can be there to listen to my kids like you do with yours

its sad to hear and i wish that more people had parents who would listen to their children more before its too late. I hope people can also see on sites like this that there is always someone to talk to if times get bad

sorry to hear you feel like that

I am in no position to give advice but i try and tell everyone in this situation to talk to someone. If they dont listen then talk to someone else. Keep talking until they listen and take you serious.

nobody but my boyfriend listens and understands. Everyone either trys to keep me from going by yelling and getting mad, or wants to go with me.

Humans are ignorant. We assume either the best or the worst in others and often that leads us to be blind to the people who need us the most. I love the way you depicted the ignorance of the parents, it is frighteningly accurate. A close friend of mine ended up in a situation much like this. Thankfully, her parents noticed and sat her down, asked her what was wrong, and she is healthy and happy as ever now. Which also brings us to human resilience, we bounce back and heal from things so naturally and easily- it's the silver lining. Lovely as ever and full of truth and raw emotion. Great job!

thanks for the well thought out comment i really appreciate it.

I cant wait to be a parent but i know it will be so so tough especially when the children get to a certain age. I think its probablt vital to do the important stuff when they are young, lay the foundations. So they know, even when they are moody teenagers that they are loved and they can come to you to talk about anything.

thanks again for your words

I agree completely. Being a parent is going to have it's challenges- no one gives you a guidebook. But I agree, laying down the basics and letting them know early on about the important stuff, that's the key. And your welcome! It's always a pleasure reading your work (and I love that you take the time to comment back on everyone's words, it means a lot!).

CloudNumber8 In reply to singletm32841 [2012-08-24 19:30:15 +0000 UTC]

yeah and i try to tell myself its natural for humans to become parents and have offspring so everything should be ok lol

oh i really appreciate everyone taking time to read anything i write and comment too. So i always take time to write back to them

The consistant rhyme scheme is really good and ending your poem with the title - very clever! Much as the poem makes me sad, i like how it educates us as human beings. Too often we allow others shortcomings to eclipse their worth as individuals. Well written.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CloudNumber8 In reply to chalekam [2012-08-23 19:56:48 +0000 UTC]

thanks for the comment

i agree totally. I like to think that to a certain extent people (espceially young people) do everything for a reason. It could be upbringing or it could be something they are experiencing now.

I am not a parent though and cant imagine how hard it must be sometimes
