Description
The night after. Gerrell, recovering has garbed herself in something a little less provocative as to not entice him to badly. Instead she has opted for a simpler outfit, covering, yet modest, created out of tanned white leather, beaten to be as smooth as any silk. A gift from Ombwa, one that he had not though he would be giving her of all mammals.Related content

She truly can be, for better or worse.

I was going to ask where the leather came from, but I guess someone else already asked.

Must have been a rather smooth crocodile.

It took a lot of tanning. A lot.

If that's less provocative, then what would she normally wear? A few leaves glued in place?

Lol she has done that, just to get on Ombwa's nerves. She prefers loose fitting clothing that is held in place with twine.

That sounds just twine to me. :0

When running with the King of the Predators be thankful the gift was just finely tanned hide and not the back strap.

Lol, yes, that would have lead to a very awkward conversation between these two.

Umm...leather is made from the hide of dead animals, usually ungulates. So he gifted her clothing made from the skin of her dead tribesmen? Ooh, not something Iβd want to give my bride. XD

Lol, I am sure Ombwa did not use gazelle hide, as Gerrell would probably threaten him with a new rug for their hut soon after. Though it does beg the question, of what animal did that hide come from... And what are Gerrell's feelings about wearing the skins of other mammals. Lions don't seem to have an issue with it, but a herbivore.

But as a warrior, she would see that leather would make for better armour than cloth. So, they might, from time to time, make use the skin of other dead animals, like say of a wild boar. Now, if they had reptiles like say a crocodile, that would make for very tough armour.

For sure, as before they relied on speed and agility to not get hit, conducting lighting raids and then fading into the grass. It was still considered near suicidal to go head to head with a lion, as though one of her tribe could land a dozen hits, all the lion has to do is land one and it is game over. Which is why Gerrell is viewed as being out of her mind by most with her habit of tormenting Ombwa.
Funny that you should mention Crocodile hide... I had to go to the archives to find this one, and it is the only one I uploaded here, but there was a story ark: The Kill

Wow, what coincidence! So Gerrell was the only one of her tribe able to kill a crocodile and thus they gave her the tanned hide so she could use it for armour. Which is why she felt invincible vs Ombwa. XD

I know, the world gets a little smaller. Indeed, that story was an epic battle - if you have ever read Peter Capstick, or J.R. Hunters account on hunting these in Africa, they are not a creature one goes out of one's way to provoke. Especially with nothing more than a spear. I suspect that killing said crock did inflate her ego, and doing so led her to provoking Ombwa, seeing him as just a bigger dumber crocodile.

We can definitely work that backstory into the next chapter.

Wonderful, - Oh, one last thing to keep in the back of your mind then: Gerrell does have a set of scars on the base of her neck, a distinct pattern that fit a lions maw. And Ombwa knows he did not give them to her, nor has Gerrell ever mentioned them to him or anyone in her tribe.

Ah, even more interesting. Either another earlier lion opponent or lover?

Code-Shark In reply to JKnight97 [2018-03-07 19:04:01 +0000 UTC]
Opponent for sure, lover, no. I suspect in this case Gerrell's curiosity and ego got the better of her, and wound her in a fix that was more than she had expected. Again, this is based off of a very old comic I found in one of my notebooks. Back before I used clean white paper to draw on. I suspect the Black Manes may have been involved.
As it would explain her hatred towards lions, and her drive to provoke them.
