Several hours later the paint was beginning to finally began to dry.
‘Can I move now?’ Kawiimi rolled her head back as far as her horns would allow. The thick paint that coated her fur cracked as her neck muscles rippled. ‘This is beginning to itch. Badly!’

‘Patience.’ Growled Garr from somewhere out of sight. ‘Try not to move until the elder comes.’

‘Easy for you to say.’ She rolled her eyes back trying to catch a glimpse of him. ‘At least you were able to stand, sit, even move around when you want.’

‘You know why that is.’ He growled back, low and rumbling. Kawii knew she was pushing a sore subject. It was an old argument that he did not want to reopen. Still it filled her with bitter rage, that she bore silently.

Five days past the summons had come, Ombwa and Gerrell where to be bound, and Garr was expected to present himself to his new king. Kawii was expected to join him. That was where all the trouble had begun and Kawii had fought him all the way, first trying to argue with him, then threatening, and even resorting to her best pillow tricks, in the end it was for not. If anything she had only caused more trouble and worked Garr into a nervous fit near the end. And it was in that fitful state that he had concocted his plan.

As he had explained it to her, it was very simple, he would have her bound to him as his first wife.

That alone created several problems, none of Garr’s tribe would conducts such a ceremony, not this close to the Time of Choosing. It would be considered a disrespectful act this close to Ombwa’s assentation, that and Kawii’s own people would cringe at the thought of bonding her to Garr. And in her state, they would probably think the worst. That left only a few options.

And Garr had grabbed the first one that came along.

Thus, after a day and a half of being bounced around in a carrier or strapped to Garr’s chest they had arrived in the territory of the Bone Gnawers, of the hyena tribe.

The reception had gone better than Kawii had thought, though the chieftain had thought Garr was jesting when he explained what he desired. Still, after much discussion and several wine skins the hyena had relented and agreed to conduct the ceremony.

Kawii twitched her nose as a fly came to light on her face, driving it away with an irritated snort.

‘Garr?’

‘Yes.’

‘How much longer.’

‘Until the circle of elders deems fit.’ She could hear him breathing out a breath of frustration as he began to pad around the room.

‘Garr?’

Another sigh.

‘Yes Kawii.’

‘Tell me a story.’ Kawii tried to find him. ‘Anything.'
