Her entire kingdom was annihilated in just one day, her mother and father disappeared without a single trace on the day it occurred… There had been no warning, for the tragedy that was to befall the entire Castle. No one in ShimmerStone Castle had stood a chance against the long sought after Delarious (Created from the word delirious, meaning: in an acutely disturbed state of mind resulting from illness or intoxication and characterized by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence of thought and speech.) who had been leading an army of shadow illusions brought to life to wreak havoc upon the land.

Delarious, magician of illusions and shadow like creatures, had been released from a long protected tomb that was meant to hold for 5,000 years. The seal only lasted 3,000 years before it weakened, due to Ambi, the shadow cloak creature who conceals her face with a mask mimicking that of a shy guy but much more eerie. Ambi is just a dark purple cloak embodied with dark matter, no arms, or legs, but some say she does have something resembling a face under her mask. This creature broke the seal on Delarious by burning the many seals with pure dark matter flames, which are highly toxic to any form of light. Once freed, he vowed to destroy anyone in his path… And he started with ShimmerStone Castle.

No one had been informed that such a dark magic had been expelled from subjugation, so no one was prepared for his attack. Marie’s parents had been watching the sunrise that morning when the golden sun over the hills turned a dark violet as the skies warped around them. There wasn’t anything they could do to stop him, but there was a way to slow him down. There had been a bright staff that was entrusted to the kingdom many families back in case of Delarious returning. However the staff alone wouldn’t be powerful enough to destroy him completely. Marie’s mother rushed her to the Crystal Cavern, which opened up to the forest on the other end, leading to the domain of the Punies. With little time remaining she left the girl with the Punie elder who promised to return the Princess to the throne when the time was right.

Marie’s father had already pointed the staff at Delarious, who’s army of shadows had already began invading. Many of the Castle inhabitants were infested by the shadows and attacked one another by the illusions that were shown to them, the dark matter slowly enveloping them, leaving only a purple black flame where they once stood. The staff glowed a shimmering white as the purple sun wavered and dissipated. Ambi not wanting to loose such a battle went straight towards Marie’s father who was oblivious to the sneak attack.

Marie’s mother emerged from the cave, only to watch her husband’s smile fade into darkness as he was swallowed up by dark matter. Using the rest of her strength she ran for the staff and pointed it at the cave, collapsing the entrance and then aimed it right for Ambi who was stuck in the cross fire. Ambi was shot out of the sky and was left wounded, unable to do more than escape as the dark matter from under the cape started to turn to dust. Delarious was hit as well and his powers were escaping him at a rapid rate. In rage Delarious broke the staff that was sucking his power away, cutting down Marie’s mother, and destroying the entire Castle.

With so much power drained Delarious grew weary and fell into a long slumber, one that would regenerate his powers once he woke up. Ambi took him into hiding, protecting his body while he slept, not allowing anyone near. Ambi’s injuries wouldn’t allow her to go far from Delarious, if she were to leave him she would turn to ash and dust. His powers were keeping her energy in one mass, allowing for her to continue existing for the time being.

After the attack…

A few years after the great battle life did return to the Castle while Delarious laid dormant. Marie was able to return to her home after being rescued by Prince Nathan, who had been told rumors about the fallen Castle. At that time Nathan had only been eight and Marie seven, but Nathan had the help of his father and his companions to uncover the entrance to the Crystal Caverns.

Marie had been living with the Punies who had made a small home for her in the cave since the forest wasn’t a suitable home for Marie entirely, since she could get lost at that age. Once the Castle was rebuilt Marie went to take the throne and established an alliance with Nathan’s kingdom and the Punies at age twelve.

(Delarious is still out there and will be returning after Marie’s seventeenth birthday…)
