A while back, I noticed something about "Back to the Future, Part 2" that I couldn't help but make this image about. I'm hoping I'm not the only one who noticed this.Related content

I did indeed notice this; and I think that Doc isn't bothered so much about the hoverboard as it can't fall into Biff's hands causing Hill Valley to be turned into an post-apocalyptic nightmare town where George McFly is dead and Biff is completely unstoppable.
That's just my theory though.

But Doc was concerned about Marty using it for financial gain, and both Doc and Marty had no clue that Old Biff was going to take the almanac, steal the DeLorean and go back in time. If Old Biff hadn't discovered the truth about the DeLorean and hadn't stolen Marty's idea, Doc still would have complained about Marty trying to use time travel for financial gain and still not even make a peep about the Hoverboard going back to 1985 with them (which, honestly, Marty could probably make more money if he chose to sell it). Of course, I just find it kinda funny and slightly hypocritical of Doc (not that its the first time in all three films when it comes to Doc).

Well I suppose that Doc would rather Marty take the hoverboard back to 1985 rather than the sports almanac I mean I don't think Marty will be selling the hoverboard in a hurry. But then again he may not have ever used it 1985 given the fact that teenagers still rode skateboards in the 80's.

There is also another possibility that Doc may have considered: Since Marty is a skateboard enthusiast, maybe allowing Marty to take it back would allow for Hoverboards to exist (you know, Mattel in the future makes the Hoverboard, Marty takes one back in time, sells it to Mattel, they take some time to reverse engineer it, then they begin making Hoverboards).
Plus, that Hoverboard would be so cool, Marty would be riding that thing around just to show-off to the other teenagers (seriously, skateboarding was pretty big at the time, so naturally if a kid had a Hoverboard, he'd be showing it off like there was no tomorrow).

That is very true; and there's yet another possibility that Doc would have let Marty take it back to the 80's is that it could be used to save the skin off their teeth for example when Marty used it to further his chances of regaining the sports almanac from Biff.

But Doc didn't expect for Biff to take the DeLorean and go back with the Sports Almanac. If he did, he would have added some sort of failsafe to the DeLorean to make sure that only he could work the time circuits, thus avoiding the whole scenario with Biff and the Sports Almanac.

That is very true; but I'm not sure that that sort of technology would have been around then; mind you this is Doc Brown we're talking about, and if he can break the time barrier then inventing a failsafe device to the DeLorean should be a doddle.
And also, the hoverboard did prove to be a useful device to have, which is possibly another reason why Doc let Marty keep it.
