Description
Um. This new DA submission layout is interesting.Aside from that, watercolor on some on-sale watercolor paper from one of those booklets of like 15 sheets or so, that I really don't recommend. If you want to paint something well, you have to paint in on good paper. I was not really trying to get the effect.
And might I add the "brand" of water color I use is not recommended. I thought throwing them crap out was kind of a waste so I'm trying to finish using them. They're out of the cheap wooden-case of "art supplies" that people buy from Walmart or OfficeMax for other people they know that paints or draws, out of good intentions, but failing to know that good art supplied cost money, and 35 dollars per a huge box might mean some really crappy s$%&. Anyhow... I got pissed off at also the crappy brushes I dug out of my box of other craps, and the hair on them kept falling off and I actually drove to Sam Flax and bought new ones in the middle of painting this.
I have quite a story to tell...
All and all, you get your money's worth with anything you buy, but that's not to say you can't do well w/ crappy supplies. I for one, have always used really crappy stuff (for the exception of color pencils, b/c good ones really do make a HUGE difference.) But that's changing slowly, cuz now I actually make good money.
And I'm not going to upload the actual finished painting here. This was painted b/c my husband has been telling me to paint something to hang on the wall... our house has nothing on the walls. XD And he's not into a lot of things I'm into...

haha, I know what you mean about material quality. For my watercolors, I still use cheap-ish stuff since I'm still starting out, and I want to work on my ability and getting used to watercolors in general before I move up to the expensive stuff.
However, a few years ago my grandmother got me the most amazing brushes I have ever used: Robert Simmons Sapphire Brushes. Whether I used them with acrylic or watercolor, the paint always went on smooth and evenly, and they still don't shed. I liked it.
As for the shedding brushes, I found a tip that works fairly nice with them. Stick the brushes, brush-side-up in some foam. Take a bottle of superglue and apply a little at a time at the very base of the fibers where they load into the metal holder. Take out the brush and rotate it, turn it horizontal, or whatever helps, but stick it back in the foam once you're done. Let them sit overnight, and shedding decreases dramatically. I figured this trick out when letting little kids play with the cheap brushes for their paints; less shedding means longer life which means less buying more brushes.

Hm, interesting, I might try that with some of the brushes I have. Thanks for the tip.

haha, thank you, but I've actually never hung anything up, it's really empty, this is probably the first thing that'll get hung sometime soon...

Thank you, well, I threw out the last one... Actually most of them go to the trash eventually, some gets stacked in a folder in a box with some art supplies. Whenever I look at the folder I'll throw something out from it. Bad habit. I just don't like my work, and I think none of them are wall worthy. I've only really liked a couple of things... >_>

Ayee yaaaaa! Youre the artist you aren't supposed to like your work or typically we don't but it doesn't mean its bad, its absolutely beautiful! You should give them all away, I'm sure there are some people who'd love to have a piece of your work

Haha, thanks, that's nice of you to say. Yeah I do give them away if people wanted it, sometimes, I just hate seeing it a couple of years later when they say hey I still have this. And I'd go nuts trying to convince them to throw it out. XD

LOL I feel that way about art I did a year ago. I screech seeing them! And I've given work away and they still have it too! I understand your feels!

haha, yeah, indeed... but I hope I can eventually get good enough that anything I give away wouldn't look as bad in the future...
