the composition is pretty much perfect on ths image, but...
As a textural piece this one lacks the two things it needs most - tonal depth and tack sharp clarity.

Basically it's a great image and my guess is that the pipes are still there.
So re-shoot it.
I've done this heaps of times if I'm not happy with the first outcome.
Try varying the exposures using the spot and multi-meter facilties on the camera
