ha - not a bad guess! i think i actually saw those mugs in a hospital once. got to be the least stylish, least sexy coffee mugs possible.
the subtitle (true style can also be the meaningful absence of conventional style) pretty much summarizes the story of the picture. i was out taking photos with a friend, and it was cold as hell (maybe not like in canada ). so we decided to pick up a coffee and went to the ugliest, dirtiest chicken-only fast-food parlor of the whole city. the environment was so awful that it somehow gained a certain style again. sounds weird, i know.

the picture illiustrates the course of an intense conversation that led to new inspirations and changed a lot.

That type of cardboard cup immediately made me think of a hospital cafeteria which made the starkness of the black and white incredibly appropriate. I also like the way the white border looks really sterile against the clutter of the shots which I suppose is also reminiscent of a hospital setting...I'm really working this hospital metaphor
Ok, now that I've done my theorizing can you tell me where this was actually taken?
By the way, if I didn't make it clear with my random imagining, I really like this!
