Description
Note: Picture (c.)... unknown source. I think a Games Workshop card game. The main focus on these guys was this: How in the world does 5 Swooping Hawks and 10 Swooping Hawks not make a difference in the Swooping Hawk Grenade Pack? And what's the point of keeping Skyleap if everyone is just going to put them right back in the air like a giant spring?
So this particular unit was based off of game play use, with fluff as the inspiration. The most popular use for the Swooping Hawks was already mentioned above; they are rarely used for little else (even in my Eldar lists).
Then I realized that what the Swooping Hawks represent and having a bunch of grenades fall on you like that is just as bad as mortar shells, so I added pinning.
Intercept was cool, but if the Exarch trained the squad to perform excellently with those wings, why not Hit and Run with them? So I added that.
So Swooping Hawks are now primarily an untouchable terror unit, with everything they do causing Pinning tests. They are the avengers and saving angels in an Eldar force having trouble.
