Description Final project for my Graphics for Illustration class. Had to trace/draw a picture of a cartoon character in Illustrator.

So I chose Lord Balmung, one of my heroes..

Little known fact.. The background alone took me 2 1/2 hours.

You did an amazing job drawing and coloring this. O_O He is really cool, I have to hand him that. The background looks hard to do!

Btw, did you get see the version of my Ghost Hunter's map here on da?

That I did! You did excellent work with it.. of the projects I saw for that assignment, yours is the best.

And thanks. I had to layer lots of transparent gradients, filters, and shapes to achieve that background. Balmung himself wasn't too hard, just a few layers of shapes and lines.

Thank you so much! I know another girl I know in my class has a really cool pirates map for her project. I wish she would post her's up. I stayed around with a few of the students in class for a light critique of all of the projects. A lot of them didn't look like they did much. >>; I just hope I won't get mamed in an alley for my efforts.

I'm not too familiar with Illustrator. Digital imaging helped me learn a lot oh tools in Photoshop. What class was this for?

Yuck.. Well, I'm glad you put the time and effort into yours. It definitely shows. Makes me kinda wish I could learn more about the guy who was going after all these ghosts and such. He seems like an interesting character..

Ah, it was for Graphics for Illustration. Basically in Illustrator you work entirely with vectors (more in depth version of Photoshop's pen tool, if you want to think of it that way). Great for coming up with crisp images! It can be quite fun to work with, though it requires you thinking entirely differently than you would normally with drawing something on the computer.

I think of him as a Catholic Priest who got bored of his job at the Vatican. He kept seeing things as he goes home every other night. So to solve this mystery, he decided to go as a ghost hunter. Seeing all of these different vengeful and peaceful spirits, he came to like his job for he can aid these spirits still trapped in this plane.

The assignment for Digital Imaging was to think up of an old worldish map with things making it a scene. It took alot of researching for stock photos and had too much fun looking for different brushes for Photoshop.

I had issues with the pen tool until I used it again in class. It was very useful. Is there a way to use that tool to just outline your desired image? I know how to pen it out and paste it onto a new document.

See.. He does sound nifty. You should try drawing him up sometime.. Off on one of his many travels.

You mean to just make like lineart or something? You just use the pen tool to draw whatever you want.. Then in that paths panel, there's a little circle that can trace the line for you. There's some tricks and such to make the lines look decent.. But they still won't look quite as crisp as they do in Illustrator. ..Though they still look nice. If you want, I can draw up a tutorial sometime if that'd make it easier for you to understand.

I think I should. Thanks for encouraging me. ^^

I might just take you up on that. I'll be taking Typography and Digital Illustration in the spring, so maybe it would be useful ^^

Ah, sounds interesting. You'll probably be using Illustrator in your Illustration class.. I'm sure they'll show you the basics, but I'm happy to show you anything I know. This semester was my first time really using Illustrator, but I feel I've learned an awful lot about it.

I certainly hope so, because I know that in animation it require the knowledge of photoshop, illustrator, and I think indesign. That was the same with me and learning about photoshop. I loved that class so so much, I'm thinking about taking it again in the future.
