Description
What's this? A new piece from me, and it hasn't been ages? I call witchcraft.Been very productive lately. So here is the next guy in the unit. I've had parts of him done for a long time, but I went in and updated all the clothing from the earlier method I used to use.
I also got disgruntled with my jury rigged light tent. Every shot just seemed to bleach out the metals and make them look fake. So I just did some straight shots from the table. It seems to have fixed the problem, but I'd still like some feedback if anyone would be willing.

Absolutely! Still use Militia men from time to time to make upgrades to my units too.
Mostly for characters and unit leaders.

I think given their rag-tag appearance and cheaper price they make better rank and file, unless yer looking for a more regimented appearance.

First of all even though I've never tried sculptures I have seen quite a lot on DA and I realise how hard they are to paint and I just wanted to say well done as i really like this and how easily recognizable you made each element through your colour choices and shading As for suggestions (again I might be wrong as I've never actually tried painting models xD) I personally find that the white is quite distracting as it is much brighter than any other part of the piece and while you should be concentrating on the detailed face and chest/gun are my eyes keep going to the bottom instead. Furthermore the shading to me looks a bit too black, maybe like someone suggested you could have a white under layer to get a cleaner look, or maybe on the yellow/warm tones you could use a cooler blue shade for the shading which is something often used in painting shadows
I hope i could help^^

Thank you very much!
I see what you mean about the white sections of the leggings distracting from the rest of the model. I could have chosen a more mute color, but I actually went with that bright white on purpose. That part of their uniform is supposed to represent and function like spats en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spats_(fβ¦ , or gaiters en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ . It's something I learned from my time in highschool marching band. Basically, since it draws the eye so much, they accentuate the movements of the legs and feet while marching. If a person is not marching in time with the rest of the unit, it will clearly show it off and allow the officer in charge to see and address it.Β marchingbands.net/files/2010/0β¦
Since this is an older rank and file military unit, working together as a seamless whole is vital to their performance and survival. Even a little lag or misstep can throw a formation out of whack... or even cause someone to get hurt. So that was going for. I think the distraction is a little less once all of his buddies are all lined up together (or at least I hope so).
I actually did use a white primer when I started this model, so I don't think that's the problem (I think that's a lighting issue on my part ). I use shading washes when I do shadows, and it runs and collects into all the cracks and crevices of the model. I suppose I could try to dilute it a bit to see if that makes it less harsh, but I'm worried then that details won't stand out enough when they're on the tabletop.
Either way, I really appreciate the feedback, Elotta. I'm glad to know what you think, and I'll try to keep it in mind when I'm doing my next models. I'll be sure to keep you posted to see what you think. Thank you again!

Long time no see, Fox.
Thanks a bunch for the comment. I didn't make any step by step shots of him while I was painting, but I can definitely do so on the next guy and post that with it.

The overall look is great. Even though, I believe with this model it is quite easy to look good when painted by an experienced miniature painter. I speak here with some of my experience, as I also painted some of these miniatures from the 6th edition starter set later on.Β
The details on the face are great and the yellow looks smooth, a colour which is notoriously hard to paint. The white surface on the lower legs look a bit too rough (too much layers?). I am not sure, but if you used black priming for this model you could maybe switch to a white undercoat instead. This should make your life easier when painting brighter colours. Obviously there are no conversions and it is a rather simple one-piece model, so the originality department is fairly low. On the other side; I hardly convert models myself and as it is a one-piece model it would be relatively hard to convert.
If I take only your painting skills in account, I would give you 8.5/10. If I should take into account originality, this 'mark' would be maybe around 7.5. I hope you think this is fair.
Keep on painting!
