Thank you!
I haven't been diving in a few months, but I'm hoping to go on Halloween. Lake Jocassee in South Carolina does a really cool Halloween dive where they decorate the bottom of the lake kinda like an underwater haunted house. Really cool stuff!

sounds very funny. i haven't heard about that here in Germany.
But isn't the water getting colder on Halloween?

Down here in the Southern US, the water hardly ever gets too cold to dive in, which is good for me since I don't like cold water lol around Halloween, I'm usually good with wearing just a 5-6 mm wetsuit and a hood

5-6 mm neoprene is not to thick and not to heavy for a little, sweet girl like you...
But do you have also some thicker suits for colder dives?

Those are the thickest wet suits I have cause I don't really like cold water lol

i would really love to do ice diving as i am very much facinated by the documentations that are shown on television. i dont need colourful fishes and surroundings. i am more facinated the that zero-gravity-feeling and the silence under water, when i tried that two times here at a lake

I couldn't help but see that you're in North Georgia...I'm 45 mins south of Atlanta. I'm always looking for dive buddies. Do you do any Trimix or Rebreathers or Cave or Wreck diving? I am certified to use the Inspiration Closed-Circuit Trimix Rebreather, and have IANTD Expeditionary Trimix Cert; and GUE Technical Level 3 and Technical Rebreather; and have my NSS-CDS full cave cert, as well as working on my PADI Divemaster, if that tells you what kind of diving I'm into...lol.
But I also just love hitting a quarry and going for a dive too. Lemee know if you'd ever like to get together and dive...we could meet up at Dive Haven or something...it's kinda hard to dive alot when my wife isn't a diver, so I've just been solo diving lately, but I've gotten to miss diving with people. lol

Cool! I'm certified in open water and Nitrox and working on my advanced. My fiance isn't a diver either but he's slowly working on it lol
Whenever my buddies and I want to hit the water we either hit Lake Lanier or go up to Walhalla, SC (or Seneca I forget o.O) to Keowee or Jocassee. If you decide to hit either of the last two, I recommend going through Off the Wall Dive Charters. Talk to Bill, he's awesome at what he does! Check out their website too!

what's defog - scratches head - i just spit in the mask and rinse it lol
s
PS
if its your mask you may need to use some toothpaste to get rid of the protective gel thats put on to them in the factory to prevent them from being scratched etc - if that's not taken off then they will keep on fogging up no matter how much defog or spit you use - plus your mask smells all minty!! lol
sorry its the DM in me...

ya lucky you don't dive with my old inst anytime she saw a mask fog up she would make you do a extra mask clear skill til it stopped (not all at once i mean clear swim around and then oh its still fogged clear it again please!!)
some people would hide from her to avoid the tap on the shoulder and the signal clear the mask

One of my favorite stories my parents tell me is one from my mom's check out dive. They had gone to Morrison Spring (North Florida) and when you pull up to the spring it looks like a swamp with the Spanish moss hanging down and the stumps sticking out of the water. My mom is terrified of snakes and was already reluctant to get in the water.
My dad is certified in just about everything; cave, night, navigation, you name it. He finally convinced my mom to hit the water and from the surface they could see the platform at 20 feet. After she did her check out my dad wrote on his slate that he wanted to go to the cave but my mom shook her head 'no'.
When he went on to the cave, my mom sat on a big Cypress log that was just in front of the cave entrance to wait for him. She's positive bouyant and even though she had 30 pounds of lead on her waist she kept floating up. So she wrapped her legs around the log and stuck her fingers in a knot hole to stay down.
Not too long after that, her instructor came out of the cave and gave her a signal he didn't teach her in class. When she got to the surface she asked what that was about and he said that a snorkeler had dove down to the cave (at 50 feet) and was draining her tank via her octopus!

Wahaha, great story Does your mum still dive?
I thin it's pretty hard to be floating up with 30 pounds of lead O.o
Haha, I imagine the thoughts of the snorkeler: "Whee, air for free!" Great...

I've been trying to get her to dive with me but she's kinda grown out of the excitement. My dad still dives but he only got back in it when I got certified. He has back problems and was convinced that he couldn't do it anymore.
When he found out I was going to take the open water class, he got out his 30-something year old BC and discovered one of the dump vavles was blocked. He took a knife and was trying to fix it when the entire vavle crumbled in his hand.
As for the 30 pounds of lead, I get that from her. It takes me 10-22 pounds.

Kil-Gor In reply to colorguardgurl42 [2010-07-17 15:38:22 +0000 UTC]
Oh I see, so it was your own wish and idea to get certified? Back problems and diving doesn't fit very well, I have to agree. But how can you ever grow out of the excitement? Then she never has been convinced of it, I think.
And diving was much more difficult with all the worse gear of those days, respect to your mum! Maybe she should try with up-to-date gear!
Hehe, that sounds much more better I need 20 for myself, when I wear my wetsuit with ice vest, so 112-14 pounds should be really enough for a girl/woman in "normal" gear

colorguardgurl42 In reply to Kil-Gor [2010-07-18 14:54:54 +0000 UTC]
Yeah my mom wasn't the biggest fan of diving. The only reason she got certified was because my dad bugged her about it forever lol
I was always inspired to become a diver when my parents told me all those stories of their wild diving days lol My dad wants me to find a baby octopus because he used to find one and put it on his shoulder and it'd ride on his shoulder through the whole dive then he'd put it back where he found it. Definately want to try!
I prefer water warm enough to need just a shorty I love everythin about the ocean and the diversity of the wild life is fascinating to me!

Hehe, last time I saw an octopus he was thoroughly terrified by my buddy and me, squirted out ink and tried to get away as fast as possible...so good luck
I have never dived in a shorty The Mediterranean Sea is pretty warm, but 19°C are also not warm enough for a shorty or rather thin suit
Yay, the wildlife and the feeling of zero gravity...

Oh, that's also a bit of a journey. So nothing for a spontaneous "Hey, let's do a nice dive in the sea".
Oh, you are a diver family, that's awesome! You can share so much experiences (and gear if needed ) I am the only one diving in my family, but my GF also wants to get certified.
Oh yes, many nice (and VERY cold) lakes to dive. But you should really have no problems with icy water, darkness and have to dive with two first stages, as they are prone to freezing and then will blow of the air (I already experienced it). But it's really wonderful and in winter you have great vis (up to 25m).
Here some pics, for example this was the Attersee in the end of Feb.:

My dad was so excited when I took my open water course and double that when I got Nitrox certified. He recently bought me an Atomic reg!
I can't do cold >.< Sounds great, but cold just doesn't work for me lol. I would love to dive the Wall in Grand Cayman and my dad and I are working on planning such an adventure. I'm also working on my advanced certification and once I got that down, I'll be looking into treasure hunting!

Hehe, sure he was, his daughter getting finally a certified diver, too. Was surely pretty proud of you!
I just still need my own reg, then I have complete equipment besides light and tank...and drysuit
Hmm, it's pretty warm where you live, isn't it? So you are not really used to it But also in Germany, there are much less female coldwater divers than male ones. But I just couldn't diver here, if I was not used to 4°C water
(Btw. coldest I had ever dived was 1°C and -8°C outside).
Woah, that sounds great! I wish you best luck for the certification and hope for some nice pics of your treasure hunts

We live just a few miles from Lake Lanier and I wouldn't dive it if someone gave me a million bucks. This lake is man-made and the dam broke before they could get the town evacuated and because of that there's buildings, cars, a cemetary and all kinds of things down there. The sheriff's dive team reported seeing 5 to 6 foot long catfish in the lake and on a good day viz is only about 5 or so feet. Horrible place to dive that's why we drive the hour to get to Keowee and Jocassee.

I am not used to much vis, last time diving we had intermediately only about 30cm, so 1 feet, vis. Then you'll see, if you have a good buddy-system
But that sounds really awesome to me, would love to dive there! So much to see and the giant catfish. Would be great! You know, I love wrecks and flooded buildings, I really enjoy the spooky atmosphere.

My buddy left me when one of my fins came off lol When we saw an eel, I was trying to get his attention to show him and even though I was slapping him and waving my hand in front of his mask, he was more interested in the surface than a freshwater eel at 60 feet lol
I can't dive Lake Lanier because every time I get in, I get an ear infection. My parents gave me the white rum + boric acid concoction but I still have those spells. You should come to Georgia some time and check it out!

Hehe, yes, I will do! But I don't think, I will come to Georgia that soon. It is not the classical place to visit when you come to the USA from abroad But if I should really do, I need a nice buddy then

My buddy has problems with spacing out lol
The water isn't very clean. Like I said, it's man-made but did't go as planned. The decomposing bodies of the cemetary and multiple people that drown every year make it worse and I for one don't want to come across a skeleton on a dive.
If you enjoy true hospitality, Georgia is the place to be Not all people are as sweet as me but I make an excellent tour guide!
Once you hit the big tour spots, drop by Gainesville, Georgia! We'd love to have you!
