It's cool and well-painted, but sexualized female armor is getting kind of old hat... oh well. Tropes will be tropes I guess.

Tight-fitting armor, especially in the science fiction genre, is not going to suddenly go away.  (If this were a fantasy work, or if she were showing a lot of skin, I would be agreeing with you.  Take a good look at the close-up, she's fully covered.  Even that spot on her chest that looks like it *might* be skin, is actually a hologram or a part of the suit that just happens to be unusually close to flesh-tone.)

Example: In outer space, without some form of artificial gravity, you DON'T want a lot of baggy clothing.  It can snag things which will go floating away in zero-G.  "Sorry, Captain, I was just trying to salute you, sir.  I didn't mean for my shirt sleeve to snag that spanner and hurl it at your head, sir!"

In science fiction shows with power armor, when you want protection just in case you have to eject from the power armor, you also want something form-fitting but tough (synthetic aramid fibers, maybe?), or you might not be able to get into the cockpit.  Case in point, this bit from Appleseed:

On top of that, even in the real world, they're trying to invent armor that is just as protective as heavier armor, without being as bulky, to preserve mobility.  While it isn't as form fitting as this is, it's certainly more streamlined.  Then there's the new space suits they're trying to develop (called biosuits)... here's a prototype, modeled on a mannequin.

I forgot I left this comment and I feel kind of like a jerk for it now. There's a lot of cool details in the full view that I didn't catch the first time.

To be fair, Appleseed's armor looks like it's painted on and it's definitely for fanservice appeal, but yeah I see the practical side of it as well, I suppose that's just down to the artist's rendering.

The biosuit is super cool looking - thanks for sharing that with me.

I get what you're saying, sorry I don't have much more to contribute, but I will say that you've changed my mind and I stand corrected. Thanks for taking the time to type that out.

Yeah, that biosuit is a BIG improvement over the huge bulky suits that we currently use for EVA's.  My understanding is that we'll still be using the big suits for EVAs (to protect against cosmic radiation and micro-meteorites); the biosuit is for use on the Moon (if/when we get back there) and Mars.  I could be wrong.  Anyway, engineering students at MIT are working on improving it.

As for the rest... don't worry about it.  I wasn't offended; I was just pointing out that, in my opinion, it's still fanservice, but - to me, anyway - it doesn't seem like such a bad thing when there's also a practical reason for wearing it (such as the plugsuits in Evangelion, or the thin outfit that Landmate pilots - both male AND female - wear in Appleseed.)
